Beacon Burst
Many
people have family or other commitments that make it difficult
to commit to the traditional Sunday club run, which typically
involves three or four hours' riding, plus a café stop. As
an alternative, the Beacon therefore offers a non-stop medium-paced
ride of about 20 to 25 miles, which gets back to Birmingham
no later than 11.15.
The rides use a small number of fixed circuits (maps below),
which dip into the country lanes and B roads south or west
of Birmingham, some of which are quite hilly. The speed depends
on the weather and the participants, but is typically about
15 mph. This ride is not aimed at beginners and participants
should be fairly confident that they will be able to maintain
this sort of pace for two hours over a hilly route. No-one
will be dropped however.
The Beacon Burst starts at the same time and place as the
main Sunday clubs run: people meet at 9am for a 9.15 departure
from the Black Horse public house, at the junction of Bristol
Road and Frankley Beeches Road, Northfield [map].
The Beacon Burst does not take place every Sunday and never
on the first Sunday of the month, or on days when the club
is promoting another major event. Please check the calendar
for the date of the next Beacon Burst. All participants are
expected to be familiar with and follow our Club
Run Guidelines.
If you have any enqueries about the Beacon Burst please ask

board.
