Sunday Club Runs
Most
Sundays we have two club runs, both heading for the same destination,
but one going a little quicker and via a slightly longer route
than the other.
- 'A' run covers 55 to 65 miles at 15 to 17 mph
- 'B' run covers 45 to 55 miles at 13 to 15 mph
- Speeds vary according to weather, participants and terrain
- Each week's run is led by an experienced rider
- Destinations vary from week to week (see Calendar)
- Routes based mainly on country lanes, chosen by run leader
On the first Sunday of each month, there is also an
introductory ride for newcomers, which covers 20 to 30
miles at the pace of the slowest rider. All the rides include
a café stop for elevenses at about half distance. Sunday club
runs meet at 9am for a 9.15 start from the Black Horse public
house, at the junction of Bristol Road and Frankley Beeches
Road, Northfield [map].
The runs usually get back to Birmingham around 2pm.
For those who find it difficult to commit to the traditional
longish club run with a café stop, on most Sundays the Beacon
offers a short non-stop ride at a medium pace, called the
'Beacon Burst' [details].
Slower riders are not 'dropped' and people with mechanical
problems are not abandoned. However, you shouldn't start a
ride if you think that you or your machine might not be up
to it. All participants are expected to be familiar with and
follow our Club
Run Guidelines.
People who are thinking about joining the club are always
welcome to do a couple of club runs on a trial basis. For
Sunday 'A' and 'B' runs, there is no need to make prior arrangements:
just come to the Black Horse and introduce yourself. Do check
the runs
list first, though, to make sure there is actually a ride
taking place.
