Raised the issue with the small one today. Very much up for it and confident that he can make it. And probably the return journey too.

I hope he can hold his beer, Jim.
He’s holding my beer. ‘Cos I know he won’t drink any of it.

Re: Weston Super Mare - June 2024

That would be a mighty challenge for the little one. Still, wouldn't put it past him, though.

Not convinced that we could contemplate riding back.

There is a good chance that I will be free on the Saturday morning now. Going to be hard to convince the little one to do MK cross with a WMCCL race the next day.

That's an early start. Tempted. Should be back for breakfast with the rest of the family. Brilliant and thanks. I will put you on parking. There will also be toast and porridge pots at the start should you want any. Sorry - just checked the calendar and not looking good. There is a cross event on t...

Its a bit up and down, but might persuade a small boy to give it a go. Hay is a great place to stop for tea.

Expect me there to help set-up and run on Saturday morning from 10:00. Won't be able to help in the afternoon, I'm afraid. Another event on that will preclude both of us.

Dudley GP, Friday 14th July

For those in the area, or want to travel there, Matt will be representing Beacon and proudly wearing their colours on Friday here: https://www.dudleygrandprix.com/ He is taking part in the U12 race which starts at 17:00 with 15 minutes of ups and downs. Other (less important) events are taking place...

Re: Saturday 8th July BEACON TO HOST NATIONAL RACE

I'll add my piece in here. Feel free to ignore. As a parent of one of the competitors for the last 2 years, I would love to tell you about why this is such a great event. It hits two targets. Firstly, we see a significant number of young cyclists without much experience. For some of them, getting ar...

Matthew has spent quite a bit of time here on training sessions, so he and I are well placed to answer any further questions.

Set up is very good, if a little expensive. The tarmac is gloriously smooth, and there are a number of different configurations of the circuit that are available.

Rollers for Trial

My son (Matthew) was watching the other cyclists warm up on their rollers on Sunday, and today asked me how much they are and if he could have a set. Is there anyone in BCC who could loan him a set for trial. And if he gets used to them, does anyone have a spare set in their cupboard / garage that t...

Re: YHA Weekend - Saturday 27th May

We're only just a bit further North on the edge of Stirchley. I wouldn't expect the majority of the group to want to travel at his pace - 18 km/h is rather slow for keen cyclists. My thoughts are that there could either be a sub-group of slower riders, or we could meet up at an intermediate point an...

Re: YHA Weekend - Saturday 27th May

Just throwing a prospect in before I discuss it further: How would the group feel about the youngest ginger randonneur coming along? I've had a look and can do a route that is only 55 miles from my house (and avoiding the A38 and the climb up Swinscoe Hill to an extent). He might take a bit longer t...

Just checked the Football World Cup schedule, and doesn't look like there is anything in the way for Sunday until the evening. Saturday afternoon could be a problem, though, depending on how England do.

Count me in.

WMCCL Round 4 - Redditch

The days are getting cooler, and the ground is getting wetter, but it was still clear blue skies and, after the early morning dew had gone, a dry course alongside the A441 at Redditch. Many of the youngsters, particularly those for whom this is their first season, found the course very challenging, ...

Re: Date for Annual Dinner 2022

Thinking of the sort of end-of-term presentations at school, I agree that the evening dinner would not be suitable for either the academy members or the existing clientele. Whilst we adults enjoy an evening of banter / reminiscing over a meal and alcohol, this is not something that kids do naturally...

WMCCL Round 12 - Highley and the Motor Cross track again

Was a warmer day than the previous week at Worcester, or that was what the thermometer was telling us. Those that braved the banks of the Severn on Sunday will attest to the strong wind which made it seem much colder. Finally, and much to the relief of all riders and organisers, we finally got some ...

WMCCL Round 11 and Regional Championships - Worcester Lakeside Campus

Just two from Beacon braved the sub-zero temperatures and headed out to Holt for the West Midlands Regional Championships. And were rewarded with a lovely still and sunny day. For the younger ones, a very tough course for the 6 and 8 year olds was identical to the Under 10's, and proved to be very m...
