Update to those anxiously awaiting news of the intrepid expeditioners*... Philip left a message at 2.45pm to say that they were on Weston sea front and about to embark on the return leg, perhaps a little later than hoped, but apparently in good spirits. *spell-check really doesn't like that word. Cu...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/may/21/ten-best-bicycle-cyclist-literature Gosh - interesting reading list. I don't think anyone's mentioned any of those on this thread. I shall start at the top with the Sherlock Holmes - although it'll have to wait until after I read Mark Beaumont's 'The man ...

Most bizarre how he skips over the small detail of his wife as briefly as he can get away with it - no efforts to paint any sort of picture of her as a person. I think he set out to write a book describing the significance of cycling in his life, and his first wife was simply not terribly relevant ...

We must have mentioned Matt Seaton's The Escape Artist at some point... I've just read it. Curiously unlovable portrayal of himself. Most bizarre how he skips over the small detail of his wife as briefly as he can get away with it - no efforts to paint any sort of picture of her as a person. Meanwhi...

Was that you sat in the HQ right at the end when we were talking to Dick Law about Alan Partridge?
Amused that you also encountered a large bunch of Solihull riders. Looks like they turned out in full for this event.

Solihull 111k (can't remember what it's official title was) A pleasant, relatively undemanding and fast route south from Hampton-in-Arden heading via Wellesbourne to Kineton (control) then back via Bishop's Itchington (and a few other places!). Livened up considerably by multi-directional and relen...

Read a couple of books by Richard Guise called "From the Mull to the Cape" and "Over the Hill and Round the Bend" . He's a retired bloke who really hadn't done much cycling before and set himself challenges to keep himself out of mischief. The first is a ride from the Mull of Kintyre to Cape Wrath a...

I recently finished reading a very curious book called 'Travels with Rosinante (?)' by Bernard something-or-other. I would be more precise, but I instantly lent it to Steve to read so I can't copy down the rather magnificent French surname. This chap rode around the world in the early to mid 1980s (...

Lisa, you can borrow my copy of... Long Cloud Ride Josie Dew Another one in the series of books by Josie recording her worldly travels by velo. This time around New Zealand. For me, this was a good read as it brought back many memories of travelling around this wonderful country nearly 10 years ago...

Finally read Josie Dew's 'Slow Coast Home' recently. This is the book in which she rides around the coastline of England and Wales. It's a pleasant light read with some laugh-aloud moments. Philip's now reading it and has pointed out that she devotes more than half the book to the south west peninsu...

A great read
I recommend a book called 'French Revolutions - cycling the Tour de France' by journalist Tim Moore. He decided to ride the whole of the Tour's 2000 route before the race itself started, despite not having ever ridden seriously before. It's absolutely hilarious.
