Re: Club runs - 19th November

Many thanks George for leading the C Run to Flyford Flavel.

It was a Pity Auntie Rita wasn't able to accommodate all of us but I had a very enjoyable ride back with Martin Loxton and Sarah Dowden.

Simon has suggested this route for the B-ride tomorrow. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Beacon-RCC-Bewdley One or two tasty hills there around the 48-50kms mark - enjoy! My thanks to Simon for leading a successful B run plus all those who took part ...bit if a baptism of fire for me as I haven...

I think the most important factor is the position of the lever at the brake's biting point......if the brake lever is too tight or too slack your fingers will not be able to deliver maximum power. A rider with large hands will probably want less brake lever travel then someone with smaller fingers. ...

If I can lock-up the back wheel with my cheapo brake blocks then why do I need to spend more on brake blocks which have a higher coefficiency?

Entirely, the co-efficiency is also dependent upon within the brake block. Hence, a cheap block using lower quality rubber is going to be less effective than a more expensive and higher quality version. The amount you pay for a brake pad is not necessarily an indication on its stopping ability. If ...

Alistair, not sure how much cash you have but I'm a cheapskate so I recently took a video of myself on the turbo. From this I used AutoCAD to measure various angles and this resulted in me moving my saddle forward a tad and rotating the handlebars so my hands were more comfortable in the hoods. I wa...

My guess: either the cage is bent (and the jockey wheel is being pulled to the side in consequence) or the jockey wheel's bearing has disintegrated. The cage looked fine. Its more likeley to be the jockey wheel bearings. All the jockey wheels I've pulled apart have plane bearings with a stainless s...

I'm pretty sure Mike Kowal is local man and trades from an agricultural type building North of Birmingham.

Does any one know more?

Is Crank length important?

I want a new chainset but can't decide on crank length. I checked my 3 road bikes for inspiration and found they are all different: Winter Road bike 170mm Carbon Road bike 172.5mm Single Speed 175mm Is there a rule of thumb to calculate optimum length? What are the signs to look out for if they are ...

Andy

I have one fitted to my winter bike and have had no problems.

Had it for approx 6 months and hasn't let me down

It has the added advantage over a modern a head set as you can adjust the height; (but not by much)

The Highway Code and amber pedal reflectors

I bought a copy of the highway code today for my son who is going to be 17 soon and read the section relating to Cyclists. Did you know that if your bile was manufactured after 01/10/85 then you Must ride with amber pedal reflectors at night? I don't think I've seen reflectors fitted to cleats and I...

Neil, Why don't you convert it to a single speed? By converting; not only do you get that perfect chain line but you will have a bike that weighs 2/3 lbs less. If you go down this route you will reep the benefits of a straight chainline which will increase the power transfer to the wheels and the th...
