Re: ONE-DAY RIDE to Weston -Super-Mare and back: Saturday 15th June

That's a bit further than the original W&B, (claimed to be) exactly 200 miles. This was sraight down the A38 to Bristol, then round to Weston. Not a great deal of motorised traffic in those days. There were 2 caegories in the original, 15 & 18 hours and I got back in a little group clocking 14hrs 6 ...

Re: April TTs Appeal for volunteers

Remind me what an assistant timekeeper does. The assistant timekeeper helps the timekeeper with recording the times and rider numbers at the finish. There's no previous experience required and our 2 timekeepers are very friendly and don't bite. :D I guessed it was that. They were called Recorders b...

Good grief! Laps of Bartley Green Reservoir, starting from the Black Horse. I can remember doing that one June evening after being talked in to riding the Beacon Bash by John Cooper, a schoolmate. Got away in a break and ended up at the Beacon Clubroom in Maas Road where I filled in an application t...

Be careful in Kineton! Went there 60 or more years go with Mick DeMouilpied, Jimmy Arnold and others long forgotten. We stopped off in the pub for a pint and a sandwich and came out just in time to see someone backing his car in to Mick's bike, demolishing the handlebars. Mick went over to him and i...

Coffee at the Country Park sounds a bit of a bummer.

Way back when, the hill climb was held on the first Sunday in October and then it was all down to the Holly Bush for a couple of jars to welcome in the Social Season :P

I see you kids are taking the 'pretty' route. Well you are going in the summer, so you might as well enjoy it. Sadly, you will never experience the joy of queuing, wet and shivering, in the Black and White Transport Cafe at Patchway at 4,00am on a February Sunday, carefully stepping over the body of...

We did a lot of hostelling in the 1950's. Norman Adams led ten of us on a hostel tour of Southern Ireland in 1954, starting in Cork and finishing in Dublin. Other notable occasions were the Bonfire run to Welsh Bicknor and a New Years Eve celebration at Stow on the Wold. Most of the hostelling was i...

For those who do not know, Graham was a past winner of our Mountain Time Trial, in the early 1960's, when the course was 62 miles and included a climb of Clee Hill. Graham won it with a 2hr 46 min ride, which remained as the record for that course.
