Re: V718 course proposed ban by Highways England
It is always the"safety" arguments used by authorities to stop people doing things. If a road has been made dangerous by cars and lorries driving fast and badly the logical thing to do would be to control the cars and lorries, but no, it's cyclists and pedestrians that must be controlled and even ba...

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 2-6pm
Club sessions at Derby are run during winter, so to late for last ones and a little early for next😁 Derby and other Velodromes like Newport, run regular taster sessions throughout the year, see their websites. Derbies taster session is also the first stage of the track accreditation process to get U...

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 2-6pm
Flat shoes as in not road cleats. Trainers or mtb shoes or road shoes with cleat removed, up to you, high heels and long boots aren't the best  . Don't know if you have used clips, but a clip goes over the toe (hence clips) and a strap around the top of the shoe. When you do the session at Der...

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 2-6pm
A medium order 54cm should be fine for a woman 5' 8" , I have only seen a couple with women's saddles unfortunately and you aren't officially allowed to change saddles or pedals. You will need flat shoes as the hire bikes use straps and toe clips.

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 1-5pm
To do individual pursuit I would say Tim is quite right even if you have never ridden fixed it should only take,1/2 hour or so to get the basics and I am happy to help with Gav to do that if we can have the track before hand. For any mass start racing then at least a basic one hour session and prefe...

If anyone is entering a race letting the Tudor Grange coaching group on Facebook would be a good start both to encourage other riders and to share resources. I try and inform those who come to session of forthcoming races and encourage entrants, if we knew in advance of who intended riding it may en...

I have been using the 40 kmh for one hour as a standard bench mark for the youngsters wanting to ride Crits, hiding in the bunch. Pretty sure that Dave just did that, in the wind for two hours!!!! 8) I think it's time Dave and Anne came down to one of the Tudor Grange sessions and showed all the you...

I've checked the UCI regulations (the first and probably the only time I'll write that) and you're right, Pete. That's good, because the retro kit is obviously the best one! Arguments over jerseys at the TdF and other major events have provided entertainment over the years . Even last year Sky were...

You knew what I meant Pete! Maybe we should change the away kit every year to raise revenue from the fans...Claret and Blue would never be allowed though! :D Then we could have an all Black kit like Man Utd and Sky. A third kit for no apparent reason and a special kit for riders in Europe. You want...

Thanks, Martin. I'll send the e-mail this evening if I get time. The retro (red, white and green) kit is the one that is registered with British Cycling, so you can't officially enter BC-organised races in the black kit. Obviously it's not up to BC what you race in in Canada, though! I think you wi...

I have a couple of front wheels taken of bikes I have rebuilt. You would be best having a look first to see if they are what you want. The best is a Mavic Kysrium Elite (spelling!). The hub and rim wear is pretty minimum. It is true and I have tried it out and it rides very nicely. It has two small ...

I shall stick to clipless. Even without cleats I am not sure I can remember that quick reach down to loosen the straps move and the embarrassment of riding my first TT in 20 years will be enough (and I was the slowest even back then), without falling off at the end! Can't afford tubs, but everything...

George You could always just use clips and straps with no cleats, there are quite a few "traditional" cycling shoes for touring still made. A friend (who refuses to go clip less, but doesn't use cleats), swears by these http://www.quocpham.com/products/fs0904.html and these ones are even better qual...

Stroud 5 Valleys There aren't many Audax rides around that are only 50 km and even fewer that also give you an AAA point. Stroud 5 Valleys does both of these in some style. Its always puzzled me why 40+ year old riders want to pitch themselves against people half their age. In Oz races are divided and started by age and ability. IMHO this makes much better races. It just aint no fun having your arse whipped by someone half your age. I had a look at LVRC a few years a ...
