Re: V718 course proposed ban by Highways England

It is always the"safety" arguments used by authorities to stop people doing things. If a road has been made dangerous by cars and lorries driving fast and badly the logical thing to do would be to control the cars and lorries, but no, it's cyclists and pedestrians that must be controlled and even ba...

Club sessions at Derby are run during winter, so to late for last ones and a little early for next😁 Derby and other Velodromes like Newport, run regular taster sessions throughout the year, see their websites. Derbies taster session is also the first stage of the track accreditation process to get U...

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 2-6pm

Flat shoes as in not road cleats. Trainers or mtb shoes or road shoes with cleat removed, up to you, high heels and long boots aren't the best  . Don't know if you have used clips, but a clip goes over the toe (hence clips) and a strap around the top of the shoe. When you do the session at Der...

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 2-6pm

A medium order 54cm should be fine for a woman 5' 8" , I have only seen a couple with women's saddles unfortunately and you aren't officially allowed to change saddles or pedals. You will need flat shoes as the hire bikes use straps and toe clips.

Re: Beacon Track Championships 1st July 1-5pm

To do individual pursuit I would say Tim is quite right even if you have never ridden fixed it should only take,1/2 hour or so to get the basics and I am happy to help with Gav to do that if we can have the track before hand. For any mass start racing then at least a basic one hour session and prefe...

I've checked the UCI regulations (the first and probably the only time I'll write that) and you're right, Pete. That's good, because the retro kit is obviously the best one! You knew what I meant Pete! Maybe we should change the away kit every year to raise revenue from the fans...Claret and Blue would never be allowed though! :D Then we could have an all Black kit like Man Utd and Sky. A third kit for no apparent reason and a special kit for riders in Europe. You want...

Thanks, Martin. I'll send the e-mail this evening if I get time. The retro (red, white and green) kit is the one that is registered with British Cycling, so you can't officially enter BC-organised races in the black kit. Obviously it's not up to BC what you race in in Canada, though! I think you wi...

I have a couple of front wheels taken of bikes I have rebuilt. You would be best having a look first to see if they are what you want. The best is a Mavic Kysrium Elite (spelling!). The hub and rim wear is pretty minimum. It is true and I have tried it out and it rides very nicely. It has two small ...

George You could always just use clips and straps with no cleats, there are quite a few "traditional" cycling shoes for touring still made.
