Hi all, apologies but I will no longer be able to lead the intro ride on the 1st November due to new job/new shift roster putting me on dayshift over that weekend. The new shift is four on four off so getting out regularly with you all will be a little more sporadic in future. Hopefully not too much...

Great run today Pete. Flat bits were certainly in the minority as expected. Nice to see some roads I hadn't been on before too. Andy pointed out the Winward Heath road as we went past. May have to take a little look! Slow but excellent cafe got us all warmed up in the sun. Good job the farmer turned...

Yes, we were heading for Kempsey and took a left so the Malvern hills were on our right. Checked the sat nav and put in Warndon village. Giovanni put in Rubery and it showed the same route. Oddly it took us south so eventually we hit the A46 and headed north. Nice run but a bit busy in places. Happy...

Cheers for heading that one Pete. Brilliantly lumpy and good fun for my first trip to Arley. I can definitely recommend the cheese and onion omelette at the cafe. First time I have left stuff on my plate in an age!

Vale Golf club C run.

Great route today through some lovely lanes and that cafe makes cracking omelettes. Cheers for leading that one Dave. Couple of riders did not respond to car up shouts and looked a little vulnerable on several occasions though, enough to worry me on the main roads. I was on the point of riding up at...

Thanks for replying Colin. I remember speaking to you by Lavender Hall. Thought I was going mad for a minute there.

Pete. Berryfields was the one I had in mind as it said 'Cyclists welcome' outside.
Look forward to seeing you there. As we are starting early, we should be at the cafe for the 10.00 opening.

James.... That was me last week. We must work alternate weekends.

Revised departure time C run.

Thanks Steve. I could not remember the start time last year. I'll revise that then to 0815 at the Black Horse.

Meriden memorial service ride.

Hi all. Sunday's run to Meriden will be quite gentle to hopefully entice a few to turn up. I believe the service is due to commence at 11.00. (Please advise if this is not the case). As last year, we will make a stop at the cafe about half a mile from the destination, time permitting. If we are a li...

I've used both Ksyrium Elite and Equip on the cross bike. Equip is very robust and cheaper. They have stood up to lots of off road use and are still true. Barely noticeable weight penalty over the more expensive Elites, they both climb well.

Hi Pete. The only time I have ever broken spokes is on a relatively new wheel, probably due to them being over tensioned. I have replaced rims on the mtb a few times using the old spokes and never had a failure. Having no jig I true them up on the bike, using the brake blocks to sight the tolerances...

I ended up repairing the tube that originally went flat after the new tube deflated on pumping up. The tyre bead was exposed after the second attempt so I need to replace that. After about half an hour in Kings Norton Park I managed to get back ok and after looking at the route, I figured to catch y...

I've tried many restaurants in Birmingham and been amazed at the poor quality of most of them. The only one I find consistently good is Sylhet in Kings Heath. York Road I think. They are usually quite busy (a good sign).

Having had to have a fly that vented its wrath by embedding its jaws into my eyeball surgically removed, I always wear a reasonably cheap set of wrap arounds. It's amazing what has been caught on the lenses after a ride. Half decent ones are pretty good at dispersing condensation and are usually adj...

If it helps, a sprocket is independent and a cog is a part of a set of gears. Cogs are usually meshed with other gears to transfer drive and a sprocket is a means of transferring drive by means of a chain or a belt, similar to a pulley. The chainrings at the front and the cassette at the rear would ...

SKS Mudguards

I fitted a set of SKS guards to the Genesis in line with the instructions. They lasted four months of reasonably gentle commute and were full of stress cracks after this time. That's less than a thousand miles and only one off road run. Not great.
