I decided to get it done at Bournes and they have done a nice job for just £35. Unfortunately, during the process the fork and frames got separated and only the frame had been finished when I went to collect today. So, if there is anyone out there could pick up the forks in the week and move them to...

Re: That was lucky
No. And never had one break. I've always thought the most likely point of failure would be where the cable attaches to the nipple. But that's never actually happened to me either. Instead of those cable end caps (ferrules?) that you crimp on with pliers and often fall off, I've started using heat sh...

Frame respray
I'm thinking of getting my 1991 steel Trek mountain bike frame & forks resprayed. Any suggestions? I already know about Bournes Powder Coating - anyone actually used them? What sort of finish does powder coating produce on bikes? I have used Mike Kowal in the past but can not find any contact detail...

Don't bother. It's just clutter that won't help with navigation. I know, I've tried the Topo GB maps. Waste of money for road cycling.AlanW wrote:Adding contour lines - here

Most times people want to convert the GMAPSUPP.IMG from the GPS to the tiles needed by Mapsource. A bit of googling suggests it might be possible to do it the other way round but the best place to ask would probably be the Garmin support forum. I presume you bought the maps on card rather than CD? ...

1) How have people got the Track Log Setup set up? Do you save to the Data Card? Your question prompted me to have a look. I have record method set to Auto, with Log Track to Data Card set. Crikey. I have 241 tracks in there, going back to July 2008 - and it's only 4% full. To be honest I never loo...

I'm not convinced that side plates stretch Yes, I did read elsewhere that chain 'stretch' was a myth - it's wear on the link surfaces that makes it appear like that. I have noticed that fair-weather cycling definitely prolongs drivetrain life. I don't think I've ever replaced a worn cassette but I ...

Remember how this thread started. You were questioning a slight difference in distance figures produced by RWGPS, Garmin etc. If you want spot-on accuracy, follow my suggestions. If you're not that bothered, carry on as before. The GPS I use for running (the 305) takes forever to 'acquire' satellite...

Yes, I meant 'reset'. And mine doesn't have start/stop - when it's switched on it's always recording. So, to sum up: - get into the open - power on - wait for satellite lock-on (don't move) - reset - start - ride - stop - power off Dense tree cover can affect satellite reception, yes. Can you turn o...

There are a few spurious trackpoints at the start of the file, indicative of not zeroing properly. When these points are discarded, the total distance is 36.8km. There is a break in the track outside the Jinney Ring, although you did not nip in for a quick cuppa. I calculated the distance by adding ...

But the relative difference in diameter between a 30 and a 40 must be greater than that between a 40 and a 50. The step up (or down) is always the same. Are you saying that step feels more (or less) depending on the start point. In other words a change down from 50 to 40 feels different to a change...
