John - you get a magazine, not an email. Alternatively there is a 'cheat' out there where you can log in to your entry through a smart phone and look at your receipt. If your entry isn't cancelled, there's a good chance you've got in!

It's 8.4% ave and 14.9% max, over 1.3 miles, at least that's what the Strava segment I did 5 months ago says. The road up there is a dead end, so you climb it, then turn around and descend. The worst bit is watching out for the sheep, walkers and the pesky cattle grids! :D
