Phil, my reasoning for preparing to step aside is in no way a purely chivalrous gesture but based upon a mix of only 3 "c run"' potential participants, rightly or wrongly I think a team entry should ride as a team, I have a ride to Murcia planned at the end of May that has been my goal for some time...

This Sundays April intro. ride will be to the Stables café near Earlswood. Route is a tad over 30 miles (unless we decide to detour) and will be out past Kings Norton golf club, Tanworth in Arden, Pig Trot Lane, across to Packwood, Hockley Heath and Stables cafe. Return via Wythall. Support will be ...

Hi to all I have put my name down to support the intro ride on the 7th June with mark Finglas. Would anyone else be willing to take my place as I really fancy going on Paul's 100 in 8 hrs as these rides don't come along very often and I don't want to let him down. If no interest I will continue wit...

Phil, could you bear me in mind for an additional team that goes at c run pace and see if there are 3 other like minded indviduals. Helen? weathers got to be better than last year, great event to focus on and you get the chance to complete the full route  Sorry john, I'm one of the smug ones ...

John - you get a magazine, not an email. Alternatively there is a 'cheat' out there where you can log in to your entry through a smart phone and look at your receipt. If your entry isn't cancelled, there's a good chance you've got in! Helen, thanks, now received my "commiserations" magazine  P...

Not had an email either way yet. Whilst I would like to participate in the event at some point, at the pace that I go at i wouldn't want to take up a space that would spoil the occasion for others. However, I am told (although not confirmed) that solihull cycle club entered 7 Teams last year. Is it ...

Is there anyone going to the dinner, from the Harborne area, that would like to share a taxi? Si, assuming tickets are still available (I've just sent Gary Mac a text), will it save a few pennies if Helen gets one from bearwood, calling at harborne and Middle Park Road en route? Any idea what time ...

Seems to me that if riders read and stuck to the club run guidlines http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/club_documents/club_run_guidelines.html the problems reported here would not occur. Particular riders ensuring that the leader is told when the group has split and not overtaking the leader. Ha...

Re: C runs

I think it would be a shame that some of the older Beaconites can't continue because of this. D Run? Anne, nooooo! Interesting that such a short thread has shown the wide parameters of expectations from c run participants and demonstrates how it is impossible to be "all things for all people". Not ...

What absolutely shouldn't happen is more than 2 or 3 people passing and then riding faster than the leader (the club run guidelines are quite clear on this). It's ok to give the leader some shelter but taking care to maintain the same pace as was being set by the leader and not allowing a gap to ope...

Having only led once, my route was to Leamington and although not too lumpy, we did have a bit of a headwind going out and ended the 56 miles or so at 13.7 mph. I did try to ease the pace on the return leg as I was aware that 1 or 2 were"feeling it" a little but was also mindful of having 1 eye on t...

It's only a soft plastic bolt, designed so it can't be tightened up too much! Unfortunately this doesn't seem to stop people trying. They usually do this, crushing the bearings and then complain about the poor quality of Shimano manufacturing. Your is a classic case. I would check that the same has...

As far as I'm aware the plastic bolt should only be finger tight. Make sure you've completely removed the two crank bolts and the safety washer before attempting removal of the plastic part. If you still can't remove it once you've done that perhaps try a sharp flat edge screw driver or small chise...

Hollowtech II pre tension bolt...badly worn!!!

Need to change my bottom bracket. Have got the bottom bracket tool and a shimano pre tension bolt tool (the one that has a small plastic thumb wheel to tighten hand tight). However the plastic bolt has been installed by the previous owner of the bike far too tight, in effect virtually stripping the ...

Stepping up from Intro to "C", "D" run?

I enjoyed the recent "big big intro ride" and had no hesitation in joining Beacon. Thanks to all of the members for looking after a mixed ability group. The next logical step for me is to join a "C" ride as soon as family commitments allow. However as someone who is only recently re connecting with ...
