I would agree with Greg that you may think differently with different group set. I have shimano 105 and have never thought I needed quicker stopping. That includes commuting when I have needed to stop v quickly in the wet and on long descents in pyrenees. Also I have heard and said it myself "better...

I'm part way through Secret Race and also finding it to be a great read. For me a must read if you are a fan of professional cycling and have watched it over the last 20years. Think this may be the last one I read though from the doping genre, after in the past reading Rough Ride by Paul Kimmage (be...

Done. Seems like a decent undergraduate sports science dissertation, mine was rubbish! Bath is a v good uni for sports science. I looked round it in 1999 when I applied and Colin Jackson was sat stretching in the sports centre reception! they didn't let me in! Personally I'm not so sure about the pr...

Yep, HR monitors and power metres provide specificity to your training. Research has shown if you go for a 60minute ride and try to work at say 70% of your maximum you will actually only be at 70% for maybe 20-40% of the ride whereas if you use a power metre you can work at 70% for 90%+ of the ride....

I used to work as a fitness instructor for a year or two after finishing my sports science degree. I taught around 6-8 spinning classes a week often two per day, alongside circuits etc and played football outside of work, no cycling. Didnt get any ill effects just had to eat loads! So 3 sessions won...

I may stand alone on this point of view but dont be afraid of switching between an spd and a platform pedal (with or without toe clips). I commute in a plain platform, v uncool I know but much safer I feel in busy traffic, faster away from junctions, and you are less likely to take risks at junction...

I actually didn't feel the pace was that quick, as I was expecting to struggle to keep up from the go, I just felt that I tired badly after 30mins due to lack of training. Im mainly just doing a 30minute commute so was expecting that. So it gives me bit of confidence that if I can put more longer ri...

Ive entered this cat 4 race on Saturday. 9 places left. Should be interesting for my first race. Don't think Ive currently got the speed, bike handling skills or nerve for it but apart from that think I'll do well! I had a bike fit at Bicicielo just after Christmas and thought it was v thorough. Was in there 90mins and it was a bargain at £50 (think its usually £75 but was discounted at Christmas/New Year).
