Cat & Fiddle Ride 12th October
I know I've posted this before but It is going ahead. I have arranged with a local cycling club in Staffordshire to do a joint club ride taking in the Rourkies Cat & Fiddle route. As you may be aware the official Sportive on the 5th October has been cancelled this year due to a disagreement between ...

Thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday morning to join us on our ride out from Leek up t' moors to watch Stage 2. I hope you're not all cursing me for the rather hilly route we took out and back again, I think the views at the top of the climbs were well worth the pain. Great to see lots of othe...

Tour De France Stage 2
Not sure if everyone is aware but a few of us Beaconites are planning a social ride on Sunday 6th July going from Leek in Staffordshire cycling up to Langsett Reservoir to watch the race. It was originally thought that the best vantage point would be at Holmfirth but on reflection these areas will b...

I visited the cafe Yew Tree Farm nr Wooten Wawen yesterday. Nice venue with reasonably priced food. Had a rather tasty hot beef sandwich on thick (i mean doorstep) sized white bread for about a fiver with salad. I would say it could accommodate a maximum of about 20. Would be ideal for B, C Runs as ...

I second Toby's comments and will go as far to say that some of the bigger organised Sportives could learn a thing or two from the V-Sprint team. Marshalling at the sectors was excellent, well stocked feed stations and just enough entrants to make the day enjoyable and safe to ride. I just hope they...

First night back on a Weds ride & the weather was vile! I did consider bailing when Nic, Matt & Ben did but figured I couldn't get any wetter than I already was so carried on. Kudos to young James who rode with us on his first Weds night ride, a baptism of epic proportions. My shoes will hopefully b...

What an eventful night that turned out to be, having had 2 **flat**s in quick succession and cleaned everyone out of long valved inner tubes It was time to call it quits approx 8 miles from home when I **flat**d for a 3rd time. I'd like to thank all of the lads on the ride tonight for waiting and he...

Mike I am 100% with you on your views. I personally am not looking to race anytime soon and purely use the Weds night ride as an opportunity to do a short, sharp and fast paced run that would not be suitable for a Sunday Club ride, but will improve my overall fitness. In addition its a good opportun...

I too enjoy the pace of keeping up with faster riders, it has helped my overall performance ten fold, however this evening's ride was just not what I expected from a usually friendly and sociable midweek ride. Just a thought, but it may well be advisable to make these new riders with said racing age...

Im in total agreement with the comments from both Phil's. I too have experienced both excellent and terrible Sportives. I certainly think the prices have been hiked up considerably during the last few years, owing to the ever increasing popularity of our sport, which is good, however I think its rat...

Phil - I thought this would be the case to be honest, I really can't see Kilo to Go refunding anyone although i agree it should be an option as not everyone will be able to attend the alternatives. I shall be doing the re-arranged Cheshire Cat in July! God it seems so long away when i say it out lou...

If you haven't heard or seen already, The Kilo to Go Cheshire Cat Sportive scheduled for this Sunday of which I was taking part has been postponed due to the bad weather. It has been re-scheduled for the 7th July. I am heartily dissapointed, however full support the organiser's decision as it would ...

I must admit having owned my Pinarello for 14 months bought from Wiggle I'm a bit miffed that Halfrauds are selling them! However having spoken to Andy at Bicicelo in town he's of the opinion it's a good thing for the brand given Halfords huge buying power, in addition it's an attempt by Pinarello t...

@John - Heard very good reports about Cadence sports bike fit & am tempted to go for a more comprehensive bike fit with the insoles. £150 if memory serves me right and its an ex pro rider that owns the business so that's well worth paying for! Tim - You're correct it was a promo price of £50 but i'm...

Hmmm I thought that regarding it being dry the other week and look where I ended up! its just so difficult to tell but the temp is predicted to drop below freezing later. I really don't want to come a cropper so close to Spring now, so I may well give Weds nights a miss until it warms up a bit more.
