If you prefer quieter roads you can avoid Bakewell by going from Monyash to Hassop via Ashford-in the-Water.About the same distance and possibly easier riding. There is a good tea room at the old station just before Hassop where you cross the Monsal Trail.

I don't know that track and none of my cyclist friends in the area have ever mentioned it.I would guess if is rideable you would need a mountain bike.

It's certainly quieter to go via Ringinglow .There are 2 ways from Hathersage. The harder bears left just after the centre of the village past the Scotsman's Pack pub and the church where Little John ,Robin Hood's mate is buried. The easier road bears left about a mile further up the Sheffield road j...

24hr TTs

I had the pleasure of having Gary Mac as my minute man in a Lake District 25 this morning (After he did a PB 10 the previous evening).Talk got round to 24s and he expressed his possible intent to ride one next year. That set me thinking, does anyone in the club know of any 24s completed by Beacon mem...

Roger Shayes and Tony Webb may remember Beacon roller racing in the 60s, especially a 24 hr record attempt in a shop window in central Birmingham on St Patrick's night. You can imagine the interest shown by well oiled Irish revellers!

I too was in Whalley yesterday! Beacon bikes and parts are top priced and obviously aimed at the affluent denizens of Whalley. However the chief mechanic (Spike) is very competent and they do serve decent coffee Worth a look round but consider carefully where to spend money.

You might like to look on the CTT website for Guidance notes for Timekeepers. Play with the watch(es) before the event to make sure you know how not to inadvertently stop the watch rather than the lap timer.Take more than one writing implement with you.Try to get a recorder to record the numbers of ...

I've had it happen 3x,in each case at over 300 miles in a 24hr TT in summer so not due to cold.Apparently when concentrating the blink rate drops so the corneal dehydration theory is probably correct.

I've done both hills both ways on 42x28 when I was only middle aged. However on one occasion whilst riding to work at Sellafield with loaded panniers I fell off up the west side of Wrynose as it was difficult to steer and balance when the front wheel lifts off the road despite using a 125mm stem.It's...

I have used 175 for the daylight parts of a 24hr TT and 170 at night and only noticed the difference for a minute or so after the bike change. For hill climbs I found that 175 caused more wheelspin than 170.My son who is 6' 5 1/2" uses 180 for TTs and Triathlons,175 generally and 170 on the tandem.He...

Just seen the result as I have been touring in Scotland including a real hill called Bealach-na-ba which rises from sea level to 2053 feet in under 6 miles.I found my 27" gear very necessary. With regard to the LMTT I think I will be in the USA if it is on its usual w/e.
