This year will rock till 0001.... Jules has got me on a promise to get a disco organised. Anyone? Ghetto blaster + cheesy music? Nick Shenton ducked... something about trans-acid-techno-house music not being suitable and having no Abba. As if! I need a cheesy DJ in a DJ in a box for Saturday night. ...

Have numbers (across A B and C) increased this year? It certainly looks like they have. This may be exasperating the problems of different abilities and aims within each group. I have recently ridden a few B and C and enjoyed them. Hats off to B and C leaders; its a tough job. Large groups of divers...

I wrote to Shimano 2 weeks a go asking why they did not include the inner-lever nylon cable guide (cost c. £0.05) in their cable replacement kit when they state in their own service manual that it should be replaced every time the inner is changed (everything else is included in the kit), but I have...

Interesting Chris. Were the gears fitted with the correct end caps? Having disassembled my R lever, in hindsight I'm pretty sure that the issue you helped me with (lack of indexing) was caused by the cable nipple dislodging due to sticky outers and a lack of bottom plate on the lever. (In fairness I...

The funny thing is I was talking to Nic about my intent to change the front mech's cable since it was 9000 km old. 20 mins later, the (3000km old) rear mech cable started getting sticky. It snapped just after the café :x Like all good professionals Nic did have a spare cable with him, but it would h...

Rear gear cable snapped again
On Sunday I snapped another rear gear cable at the lever end. This one lasted just 3000 km and again broke inside the lever making it a nightmare to get out. In the end I had to detach the lever and virtually disassemble it in order to dig out the nipple which becomes lodged in the mech. Yuk. In doi...

Blimey, this is better than The Archers (Lisa, I am still waiting for a one-sentence exec summary of 40 years of story line!) So, one mystery solved, another remains totally baffling: SRAM GXP on my tourer. Turns out to be 'standard' hollowtech 2 diameter. (I'm beginning to think bicycle 'standards'...

Thanks Martin and Pete. OK, I have a confession to make  The BB R60 I have came with a unidentified plastic thingy. I have just read (Q&A at http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-bb-r60-ultegra-6800105-5800-hollowtech-ii/) that this is the adapter to fit inside old hollowtech tools. Duh. To be fair ...

pete, BB have evidently shrunk in diameter. The new 6800 Ultegra 11 speed BB (BB R60) is the same diameter as the SRAM GPX on my touring bike above. I took a new BB R60 round to Paul's to test and his tool was the same size as my old one. The tools listed below SAY they fit the new 6800 and GPX? I r...

Did you establish that there's not a white wall upstairs in the club, Barry? The projector works perfectly well without a screen if you have a suitable wall. The bracket (similar to yours) on my road bike's tortec mudguards constantly came loose and rattled. Echelon fixed it with packing and glue! And while we're on SKS mudguard longevity, the rear on my tourer has recently broken after just 6500 km / 2 years. Rubbish. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3853...

Shimano shoes
As I was wandering my way up KH12 yesterday, I thought to myself, I have to get some new shoes. Mine are starting to die, being 6 years old and suffering damage during a smash a few years a go. Current shoes are Shimano R300 and I have been very happy with them. 20 years of walking near-barefoot, wi...

Route to Lutterworth
Anyone got a road bike route to Lutterworth from the Black Horse(ish)? Or can someone who know the route/area, please suggest a rough route.
As is often the case going across country, there doesn't seem to be any obvious route and is potentially in the way.
Thanks
