Cat & Fiddle Ride 12th October

I know I've posted this before but It is going ahead. I have arranged with a local cycling club in Staffordshire to do a joint club ride taking in the Rourkies Cat & Fiddle route. As you may be aware the official Sportive on the 5th October has been cancelled this year due to a disagreement between ...

Thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday morning to join us on our ride out from Leek up t' moors to watch Stage 2. I hope you're not all cursing me for the rather hilly route we took out and back again, I think the views at the top of the climbs were well worth the pain. Great to see lots of othe...

No problem Craig.

Barry that's just a bit further down the road from where I was thinking of going. I was looking at the junction of Mortimer and Penistone Road which is uphill.

Be great to hook up with you guys and get a Beacon collective together.

No problem Craig but you'll have to sort out your own travel to Leek & back.

I'll post up what time we are set to meet in the next week. Just need to figure out where will be best to park.

I could probably plot you a route Barry but as Steve says I would honestly consider getting the train just to the North of the city unless you are planning on leaving at the crack of dawn in which case you would miss the chaotic traffic.

Phil - It would be great to have you along for the ride. I was looking at the general vicinity near to Langsett and the junction between Mortimer and Penistone was the exact spot I was planning on taking us to.

Great minds think alike eh?

Tour De France Stage 2

Not sure if everyone is aware but a few of us Beaconites are planning a social ride on Sunday 6th July going from Leek in Staffordshire cycling up to Langsett Reservoir to watch the race. It was originally thought that the best vantage point would be at Holmfirth but on reflection these areas will b...

I visited the cafe Yew Tree Farm nr Wooten Wawen yesterday. Nice venue with reasonably priced food. Had a rather tasty hot beef sandwich on thick (i mean doorstep) sized white bread for about a fiver with salad. I would say it could accommodate a maximum of about 20. Would be ideal for B, C Runs as ...

Thanks George, I'll definitely be doing it again next year.

I second Toby's comments and will go as far to say that some of the bigger organised Sportives could learn a thing or two from the V-Sprint team. Marshalling at the sectors was excellent, well stocked feed stations and just enough entrants to make the day enjoyable and safe to ride. I just hope they...

To be honest Andy for how much effort it takes to plug the 800 in and upload/download your rides I'd search for some good deals on a new 800 and save some money!

There isn't a vast amount of difference as far as I can tell.

I too enjoy the pace of keeping up with faster riders, it has helped my overall performance ten fold, however this evening's ride was just not what I expected from a usually friendly and sociable midweek ride. To be honest Harry most carbon frames are made in the Far East anyway so they are probably no different, apart from the price tag! Have a look on Ali Baba.

I'm pretty sure most of the so called knock off frames are just merely ones that disappear from the factory if you know what I mean?!

Definitely worth having it done Alistar, I had mine when I bought the Pinarello and its paid dividends. It's important to be comfortable on the bike especially over long distances & it reduces the chances of injury.

Bicicelo do a bike fit, I paid £50 & it wasn't bad & took about 2 hours.

I really don't want to come a cropper so close to Spring now, so I may well give Weds nights a miss until it warms up a bit more.
