Save yourself the money and use something where the batteries don't run out. I seriously went through the same anxieties as yourself but settled upon the following: Map Holder + AA Road Map from Tesco £19.99 + £1.99 = £21 http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/mini-map-1-map-holder-9-x-15-cm-with-klickfix-brac...

the rider before Simon (no52) had a big gear and had had to "tack" his way up the hill :!: he was overtaken by about 3 riders in the process from a long way down. This might have been the rider whose rear mech stuck on the small cog. At the top of Ankerdine he swapped his bike for his parent's tand...

My time was 2 hours 7mins something and it did say that on the board. My garmin has 2hrs7mins45seconds and I started it 3-10seconds after starting and 1-3 seconds after the finish line. However, if you want to keep it at 2hrs32, I will look forward to taking the £30 next year for best PB when I go ...

Thanks for stepping in Paul. As suggested by others, have a look at the CTT Guidance Note No. 7 (especially the bit about not letting dirty or untidy riders start), but his is what works for me: As well as the stopwatches you need a clipboard, paper and pens. Get to the start at least 15 minutes bef...

Yes - in 1998. It was a mountain biking holiday but we did a fair bit on road. I gather surfaces have improved a lot over the last few years hence the availability of holidays from the the likes of KE and Skedaddle. We stayed in 'basic but charming' gites - I think things have moved on in that depar...

BWC 2013 will take place at Goodwood Motor Circuit. So 2012 will probably remain my one and only effort.

Moved on safety grounds I guess - it was a bit scary all us non-racers racing round the narrow roads at Blenheim.

This is from Paul Kimmage's piece in the Observer today. In the autumn of 1993, Greg LeMond and his wife, Kathy, were sitting at home in the suburbs of Minneapolis, when they received a visit from Linda Mooneyham, the three-times Tour de France winner has recalled. Her 21-year-old son, Lance Armstro...

It wouldn't be that hard to write some software to validate a GPX. I just don't get the feeling AUK are ready and willing to go paperless just yet.

How do you judge your own performances in these events, Andy, given that they are all different? By your position in the field? Are fields broadly comparable? Is half way about par for the course for you, or does it represent an improvement? I tend to think that above half way is a good result. If ...

When I'm pedalling I only understand speeds (mph), which seems to make for a tricky conversion: Let's say I'm in a low gear for a hill such as 32/24, and am pedalling at 80 rpm. My tyres are 29" diameter which is about 736mm or 0.736m. With each pedal stroke I am travelling 0.736 x pi x 32/24 = 3.0...
