My time was 2 hours 7mins something and it did say that on the board. My garmin has 2hrs7mins45seconds and I started it 3-10seconds after starting and 1-3 seconds after the finish line. However, if you want to keep it at 2hrs32, I will look forward to taking the £30 next year for best PB when I go ...

I can recommend Echelon cycles, titanium frames, and Shimano 105.

In my opinion Trek are overpriced and I second what others have said about Bontrager wheels.

And a friend of mine has been happy with his Roubaix.

I suppose any route you choose could be ridden and submitted to the AUK as a DIY, and validated using a GPX track.

Unless the route happens to coincide with a 'perm' in which case GPS validation is not allowed.

Or have I missed something?

My 'Monty Madness' in 2011 was validated using GPX track, plus some photos take on the way round.

It wouldn't be that hard to write some software to validate a GPX. I just don't get the feeling AUK are ready and willing to go paperless just yet.

When I'm pedalling I only understand speeds (mph), which seems to make for a tricky conversion: Let's say I'm in a low gear for a hill such as 32/24, and am pedalling at 80 rpm. My tyres are 29" diameter which is about 736mm or 0.736m. With each pedal stroke I am travelling 0.736 x pi x 32/24 = 3.0...
