I use a Cateye Strada Cadence on my turbo. Used it for ages now with no problems. I find the cadence function really useful. I think you can pick one up for around £30.

Great write-up George. I really enjoyed reading it. Some great photo's too. One day I'm really going to have to go and do something like that; it looks and sounds terrific.

Tacx replacement parts

I've just discovered that the resistance adjuster cable on my Tacx Sirius has broken. Hmmm, I'd been thinking that the resistance lever didn't seem to be having much effect lately. Does anyone know if its possible to get a replacement? I've been trawling the internet without success. Maybe its not a...

What about shoes/cleats? I'd suggest eliminating these as a possible cause too. You have my sympathy - my bike has just developed a new crank related tick, and I've not had chance to test it following initial regreasing and tightening of bolts. Any kind of a noise like that is so unspeakably annoyin...

I generally replace my gear and brake cables once a year. I don't know if this is overkill or not, but the used cables do tend to look quite poor when I remove them.

Neil, I've found dhb stuff to be larger than I'd expect by comparison with other brands. I order large where I'd usually have to go with xl and find that the fit is good.

George, I don't use a computer type sensor with my unit (I don't think it's an option with the 605). I haven't had any problems with an erratic readout either though.

The Garmin battery lasts around 14-15 hours on a full charge. It can be charged from the mains, or via a USB connection.

However, I anticipate still wanting to be able to glance down and see basic stats such as speed and distance, without having to scroll through various settings. George, I use my Garmin 605 for the purposes you have stated, and I find it does the job superbly. You can have the display set to speed/d...

I've been reading modern authors lately, and have thoroughly enjoyed David Mitchell - Cloud Atlas, Ghostwritten, and Black Swan Green (which is set in Malvern), and Robert Harris (Imperium, Pompeii), Ian McEwan (Saturday). However, I am now a rivetted fan of Cormac McCarthy. Was knocked out by The R...

cassette question

I've just ordered a cassette so that I can use my old rear wheel on my turbo. It's just occurred to me that I don't know if the cassette will come with a lockring, or if I'll need to buy one separately.

Anyone know if cassettes generally come with lockrings?

Cheers
