Wondering what to do with the children over half term? (or know someone who might?)

Beacon Cycling Academy has the answer!
On Thursday and Friday 21st & 22nd February we’re running cycling sessions suitable for 5 – 12 year olds. Noon - 1pm. As well as Beacon coaches we’re really pleased to have British Cycling’s James Anderson (who is the Core city go ride coach for Birmingham) on board.
The sessions will take place on and around the all - weather pitch at Holders Lane Holders Lane, Birmingham, B13 8NL. This is a different venue from our previous sessions at Rowheath with different slopes and surfaces suitable for skills that are needed in Cyclo-Cross & Mountain Bike racing. It is easily accessible from the Rea Valley Cycle Route but parking is also available.
Sessions are free for your first visit and a pound for subsequent sessions if you’re a Beacon member. Children are welcome on any bike as long as it can be confidently ridden without stabilisers. It is worth bearing in mind that there will be some riding on gravel as well as grass surfaces. Helmets and gloves must be worn at all times during the sessions.
Please check the Beacon Cycling Academy Facebook for updates on sessions as we post any cancellations or alterations to sessions on there. Our Facebook group is a closed group to protect our young members so you need to ask to join before you can see posts.
The forecast isn’t bad at the moment, but please do ensure that children are dressed for the conditions. There aren’t toilets at Holders Lane unfortunately so we ask that parents stick around in case.
I’d like to get all of the essential consent forms organised in advance if at all possible as this will save time on the day. Please contact me on gear@2-cool.com if you’re planning on coming and I can send you one over.
In the meantime do keep your eye on the Facebook page for skills videos that you can have a go at before Thursday.
Hope to see you there – should be a lot of fun.
Happy Cycling!
All the best,
Ade

Two great sessions at Holders Lane and the sun shone. Alex & Zac were along twice - joined on Thursday by Jacob, Sam, Isabelle & Thomas and joined Friday by Fernella George and Romilly. All riders did well developing skills in uphill, downhill cornering and off camber riding. Big shout out to Romilly who can now ride a bike!! Thanks to James Anderson of British Cycling. Thanks also parents for bringing our enthusiastic young cyclists along. Do keep an eye on the Beacon Academy FB for details of future events.
