Beacon Cycling Academy

Post by Tim » 04 Mar 2015 16:50

Beacon RCC is delighted to announce that applications are now open to join Beacon RCC's new cycling academy for 5-8 year olds.

This year we will be offering a series of ten junior coaching sessions from April to September in Bournville. They will be led by British Cycling qualified coaches and will give participants a chance to have fun on their bikes whilst developing their confidence and riding skills. Membership is just £10 including all of the coaching. Spaces are extremely limited and will be provided on a first come first serve basis. The sessions will be at Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville (on the playing fields so traffic free) on Tuesday evenings at 6.30-7.30pm. Your child will need a bike that is in good working condition, a well fitted helmet and they will need to be able to ride a bike. If any of these don't currently apply and you want some advice please ask.

What does your child get for your £10?

- Membership to Beacon Roads Cycling Club until the end of 2015.
- 10 hours of coaching that will cover bike handling skills, riding close to others, braking, pedalling, and using gears (where appropriate) and they will have an opportunity to do some informal races.
- A Beacon RCC Frame Sticker and Water Bottle.
- Opportunity to represent Beacon RCC in the West Midlands Road Cycling and Cyclo-Cross Junior Racing Leagues at under 8 or under 10 age groups if they want to progress to that.
- Opportunity to buy Beacon RCC junior cycling kit.

Dates of the sessions are:

21st April, 5th May, 19th May, 2nd June, 16th June, 30th June, 14th July, 1st September, 15th September, and 29th September.

To book a place please email timegan2002@hotmail.com and you will be sent an application form. If you have any questions please get in touch.

Further details and updates will be available here and on Facebook in due course. Please like the Facebook page and spread the word.

The consent form is here! Please print and return both the consent form AND the membership form asap.

Payment of £10 is by cheque (payable to ‘Beacon Roads CC’).

Completed forms should be sent to: The Treasurer, Beacon RCC, 20 Colleen Avenue, Birmingham, B30 3NN.

CONSENT FORM:
http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/c ... onsent.pdf

Or in word

http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/c ... onsent.doc

AND as well as the consent form you need to fill out and send the membership form:

http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/u ... p_form.pdf

They are on the website also here:
http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/c ... index.html
and here:
http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/resources/u ... index.html

I know this bit of admin is a hassle but it means that there won't be any admin or payments needed on any of the coaching nights apart from ticking in and out.

Please have the forms returned asap or by Friday 27th March at the latest. This will confirm your child's place. An email has reserved a spot but this will be released if forms with payment arent received by 27th March as we are almost at capacity.

Any questions please shout here or email me.

Many thanks

Tim

If the child/children of any existing Beacon members wish to take part in the Beacon Cycling Academy they can do so by upgrading to family membership (which works out cheaper if you have more than one child taking part).

Similarly, children of any existing family members can take part free of charge.

Finally, if any non-member parents of children taking part in the Academy wish to get involved in the club they can do so by joining as a family or upgrading to family membership.

So nuclear rather than extended; like the Winsors the Marshalls prefer to maintain their own separate households, but with fewer divorces and rather less cash.
My grandchildren will just have to join themselves

A successful first session with many children participating and with no accidents. Well done to Tim, Greg, Claire and Pete for running the session.

Thanks Si, your help with sign on was invaluable!

Can I put on record thanks from the coaches and parents to the club for supporting us financially to get trained up. Also Greg who spent half of his weekend planning last night's session!

I have had requests from other parents to join before 9am today, they had heard about it in school playgrounds this morning, so think with word of mouth alone we won't be short of customers in the coming years. Entries are now closed though for this year, we are fully subscribed!

Anyone else who can help with signing in and bike and helmet check at the start of these sessions please let me know, 2 or 3 extra people there 6.15-6.30 would be good. Next session is in a fortnight.

I enjoyed the evening immensely. Great to see the kids enjoying themselves and trying so hard. A real credit.

Thanks to the club for giving me the opportunity to learn some new skills in my "mature" years. I would encourage any member to give some time to the academy, it is as rewarding for those coaching and assisting as it is for the kids taking part.

I am almost sad that I will miss the next one, but it's my wedding anniversary and if I miss that it could be the last thing I ever do

Looking forward to a months time for the next one I can get to, when all the kids will be doing team time trials 8)

Tonight's session is cancelled due to weather/standing water on pitches. We hope to reschedule.

Signing in, as we have rearranged the cancelled session for next week we have 3 weeks in a row coming up.

Would be good to have one person 6.10-6.40 to do signing in and handing out bibs (I provide group list and bib colour required so it's straight forward) whilst the coaches concentrate on bike and helmet checks and prepping their circuits.

If you can do could you reply here with preferred date.

Si has done last couple and may be willing to do more but it would be good to share out this task. I can ask parents too so no worries if we don't have someone every session.

Cheers

Tim

After a bit of practise.... :D

The kids thought he was great, although they didn't think he was quite as good as Brad (or in one case "my dad") when asked how good he was :P

Can anyone help with sign on tomorrow night? if not will ask a parent to hand out the bibs so coaches can concentrate on bike checks.

Big thanks to Andy Stowe who is stepping in to help coach in the absence of three of the regular 5 coaches including myself. If anyone can help assist him or Pete it would be appreciated.

Wrap up warm!!

Thanks for helping out Dave, really makes the start less stressful! Someone else in a fortnight would be great.

An enjoyable session of limbo cycling and my newly invented sport of cycling basketball was a success :D

The Cyclists of The Week enjoyed receiving their medals from The President!

Tim I'm coming back from a meeting in Manchester and will be walking past Rowheath. But I can't guarantee being in time to do the signing on.

Please let me know if anyone fancies coming down tomorrow night to help. From 6pm.

It is the last session before a summer holiday break. We plan a more fun/activity/race filled session so a couple of extra bodies may be useful.

Cheers.

All members are invited to come down next Tuesday 29th from 6.15 to watch the last coaching session this year and trophy presentation.

Usually Club Trophies are presented at the Annual Dinner in December however we have decided that the Junior Road Trophy, which one of the Academy members has won, should be presented at the end of this last session when the other junior members will be present.

There will also be some racing in this last fun session so all are welcome to come along to watch the action and applaud the trophy winner. The presentation will be at around 19.15 after the racing on the Rowheath playing fields, same place as where we meet.
