Derby Velodrome - who might be interested
I have been in discussions with Derby Velodrome about the possibility of "some" Saturday afternoon track sessions and to be honest they are not making it very easy to understand or to book for that matter??
However, if I have read it correctly, the best and cheapest way is to share the track time with another club. Even then and again if I have read it correctly it would still cost £127.20 per hour. Plus £25 per hour for a track coach. If we want it just for us, then its £318 per hour???? But I have asked to have some of the finer detail confirmed because something doesn't sit right with me at the moment.
So this tread is just to float the idea around and gauge any interest.
To hire a track bike is £17.50 for 2+ hours but must be booked in advance and by at least 48 hours
The maximum rider limit is 16 riders for beginners and 20 riders maximum for intermediate and advanced groups.
One coach per 20 riders maximum
Its certainly a lot more work than booking with Newport!

Finally a response:-
Hi Alan
Yes the hourly rate for sole use of the track is £127.20 and the coach is £25 per hour.
We can do 1pm – 4pm on Saturdays, if you would like to let me know a few Saturdays you would be interested in, I can check the availability for you.
Regards
Helen
The problem now is; a) finding a Saturday date that suits the most amount of people b) will it tie in when Derby have a free Saturday slot.
Or failing that, we could see if we can get enough numbers for six winter track sessions as we did at Newport?

Would be great if the winter track sessions happened again, surely there would be more interest as its half the distance plus if numbers are short I'm sure we could fill by opening up to Redditch/Boldmere etc.
No harm trying for a one off summer Saturday too but I will probably struggle to make.
Cheers for trying to organise this.

As before we would need at least 20 people to make the winter sessions financial viable Tim.Tim wrote:Would be great if the winter track sessions happened again, surely there would be more interest as its half the distance plus if numbers are short I'm sure we could fill by opening up to Redditch/Boldmere etc.

I'd do everything in my power to sign up to this, I'm really keen to have a bash at this track cycling lark.
Cheers,
Stu

Good news......... my mail to Derby Velodrome dated 31st May 2015 has just been answered.
The bad news, and I quote
"We are very busy on Saturdays at the moment but may have some more availability in 2016"

Having just done my accredation there this evening I would tend to agree even more now!deero83 wrote:Seems to me to be a great facility but run by morons
If anyone is thinking about going do NOT go by the post code shown on the web site as it will take you to a builders merchants three miles away in the opposite direction.
When I finally arrived I mentioned this fact to the woman on reception, she said that loads of people are doing the exact same? She said that if people put in the post code for the football stadium next door then it will take you straight there. Well do something about then and put that fact on the Derby Velodrome website, for goodness sake!!!!!
Also, and prehaps I'm being Mr Picky, but after you have done and passed the accredation, you dont get a laminated card as you do at Newport. When asked, I was told that it was saved against your membership number on the system and that if you want something to show, then you have to buy a BC licence at £20??
That said, on the plus side, they said that with the BC licence you could then ride at Manchester without the requirement for further accredation there.
