Training talk with Ruth Eyles 29 October, Rednal Social Club

Post by laurence_cooley » 20 Sep 2015 16:54

Dave Cole and I have organised for Beacon member and cycling coach Ruth Eyles, who many of you know, to come and give a talk on the evening of 29 October. Ruth will be giving some general training advice, with a focus on the following:

*Setting good goals
*Identifying the demands of events
*Types of training
*What training is right for you?
*Planning, doing and recording training

The talk will take place at Rednal Social Club, starting at 19:30 and will last approximately two hours. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask Ruth questions.

I suggested to the committee that we could invite Ruth to give a talk primarily with people who race in mind, but the talk is open to all Beacon members who are interested, and I'm sure that Ruth will be able to give advice regardless of your cycling goals.

If you would like to attend, it would be helpful if you could let me know by posting below or contacting me directly, so that I have an idea of numbers. Thanks to the committee for agreeing to support this event.

Thanks for organising, Laurence.

For the benefit of younger members who may not know Ruth, she was British Best All-Rounder in 2005. Ruth won a total of 11 individual National Time Trial Championship medals at distances from 25 to 100 miles and was National 50-Mile Champion in 2005 and National 100-Mile Champion in both 2005 and 2008. She also won the women's Beacon Little Mountain time trial 3 times and still holds all but one of the Beacon Senior Women's time trial records. Ruth has been a full-time professional cycling coach since 2007.

Unfortunately, those dreaded unforeseen work commitments have come up and I'm away all week so will no longer be able to make it.

Thanks, all. I've given Ruth an idea of numbers, but any club member who hasn't posted here is still welcome to turn up tomorrow night. We'll start at 19:30.

An informative and elegant presentation with a light touch.
Pity I arrived a shade late for these gems...by about 48 yrs! Good to see some of the younger members there and hopefully to benefit from someone who really knows what it takes.
On behalf of myself and all those present, thank you v much Ruth.
