Wern Watkin weekend away Friday 3 - Sunday 5 March 2017

Post by Jane Herrin » 30 Oct 2016 17:41

As the days become shorter and the nights grow longer and colder, it's time to think of the Beacon March escape. Rolling hills, fine food and fantastic company await you at the Wern Watkin Bunkhouse, (Llangattock, near Crickhowell, Powys) while the surrounding countryside offers great opportunities for cycling, sightseeing, canoeing, or walking.

Those of us who stayed at Wern Watkin last year thought it to be the best bunkhouse that the club has used during this successful series of early Spring escapes, so do join us in 2017.

More details can be found for the 5 star bunkhouse at www.wernwatkin.co.uk

The accommodation cost will as last year 44.00 per person for two nights plus a modest charge for the meal in on Saturday evening, menu to be revealed nearer to the time.

Please either post below or send a private message if you would like to go and let me have a deposit of 20.00 per person, cheques to be made payable to 'Beacon R C C' or if you prefer, payment by BACS. For those who pay by BACS please let me know when you have paid.

It would be great to welcome some new people as well as the loyal regulars.

Places are limited to 30, a number of people have already signed up, so don't delay book today.

If you would like to know more please send me a pm or telephone me.

Unfortunately I can't make it this time, as I'm going to be in Spain that weekend. I'll miss cycling up that hill.

Hi.
I'm coming. Looking at booking a half day uplift at bike park Wales, potentially on the Sunday morning. (I can't go all that way and not go to bpw! Lol).

Think I've managed to persuade Carolyn to join me. Let me know if any one else is interested.

Cheers

Helen

Nearly time for our third visit to the 5 star luxury bunk house that is Wern Watkin. The format will be much the same as last year, fish and chips on the Friday evening and the traditional fine feast on Saturday of :-

A glass of bubbly and nibbles to start

For the main course a delicious spaghetti bolognese. To be accompanied by whatever beverage alcoholic or otherwise you choose to bring.

Followed by the famous Cartmel Sticky Pudding with either custard or cream

Tea or coffee

Here are a few reminders of stuff to bring for the weekend:

Torch
Food for breakfast, packed lunch, snacks etc.
Drinks
Towels
Money

Things provided:

Bed linen and pillows

To save there being several cartons of milk etc. I will bring for a bulk supply of :-

Milk (semi skinned)
Sugar
Tea bags
Coffee
Red and brown sauce
Vinegar
Salt & pepper
Kitchen roll
Tin foil
Napkins

The bunkhouse is available to us from 4pm. on Friday. The owner of the bunkhouse is happy for cars to be parked outside the front doors for unloading but request they be moved to the parking area afterwards.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Please can you let me or Dave Cole have your fish and chip orders so that these may be ordered a few days before our visit.

If you can get it over to me then I will take it. Not a problem.
There is not a hill that is to steep to walk up.

Is anyone who is going by car taking any WD40 or similar? Because the weather forecast for tomorrow looks pretty miserable, and I can't easily take water dispersing lube in my jersey pocket, and my bag has already travelled. So if I could scrounge a few squirts off someone, I would be very grateful.

Hello

Thank you to those of you who have supported and helped with the bunk house weekend over the last 9 years. Unfortunately it was not possible to get sufficient numbers this year to break even resulting in a loss for the club.

With this in mind I think it prudent not to make any further bookings. Tone and me have hugely enjoyed your company on each of the weekends and are saddened that this has to be the last one.

If someone wants to organise a replacement social weekend I would be more than happy to help.

Thanks again, it's been fun.

Jane
