Christmas Go Ride Cross Races Tuesday 20th Entry Open

Post by Tim » 16 Nov 2016 21:56

I'm organising two afternoons of cyclocross racing for children at Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville on Saturday 3rd December (day of annual dinner) and Tuesday 20th December.

Sign on from 12. Course open to ride from 12.30. Racing 1-3pm.

So in a perfect world I could do with the following kit and helpers:

Kit including

Race Numbers
Beacon Gazebo
Bell
Start/Finish Flag
Stakes(plastic easy into ground type) and Tape
A Barrier or two. Half height of adults so a three year old would be able to lift their balance bike over!
1st 2nd 3rd Podium
Caution Cycling Event Signs

Ideal Number of People to Support:

Sign On x 2 or 3
Marshals x 3 (just to stop walkers/dogs entering course and stop kids riding into pond or cheating/cutting corners.)
First Aider x 1
Course Set Up x 1 plus me
Starter/Tracking of Finishers & Results x 2
Handicapper: Me
Prize Presenter: Graeme Obree? :D
Kit Clear Up: x 2: Me & one other

Sign on will be from midday. Racing 1-3pm. Ages: Balance bikers to 15. £3 entry pay upon sign on.

All children will get to do at least two races. All races will be 5-15 mins in duration.

If you can help or bring any of the above kit please reply below with which date and what role you can do or kit you can bring. Dressing up as Father Christmas or an elf is optional. Tinsel on bikes of riders highly recommended.

The course will be next to pavilion using trees and will be around 400 meters long, 80% grass, 20% tarmac.

The cafe and bar will be open.

Details will be on British Cycling website soon.

Thanks!

I will check what stuff I have in new Go Ride bag. I will also bring FA bag and can cover that.

I think someone from the Redditch might have our gazebo still, from the cyclo-cross event. Gary should know.

Tim
I can help on the Tuesday but not the Saturday

I have in my garage

Race Numbers
Caution Cycling Event Signs
Start/Finish Flag

someone will have to collect them from me because they are in the loft of my garage and have to be passed down.

Beacon Gazebo (Nic Vipond or Greg Thompson may be good contacts to find the whereabouts of this)

Bell ( I think that Dave Hughes has a school bell)

Stakes(plastic easy into ground type) I have a few of these, but you may need to borrow some from Redditch R & P

and Tape - You will need to buy rolls of this ( the Beacon will pay)

A Barrier or two. Half height of adults so a three year old would be able to lift their balance bike over!

1st 2nd 3rd Podium (John Hitchcock has the podium but he lives near Evesham)

I saw the Beacon gazebo at the Redditch 'Cross, it was deserted although I felt justified in leaving my water bottle in it during the race.
No idea who was looking after it, I'll mention it to Greg as he has lots of contact with Redditch R & P.

Thanks. Yep apparently it's at the abbey, I've got a contact. So I will arrange collection from there although if Greg wants to take it to red Kite so I could collect from there which would be much easier for me he can :-)

Entries will open on bc website in next couple of days.

Any more offers to help with sign on/giving out race numbers or marshalling?

Cheers

And thanks Dave. Will be in touch to get numbers. Getting stakes and tape off simon. The podium probably isn't necessary as I don't really have space to store anyway and too busy to get before 3rd. If he or anyone else can get it or bring it on either 3rd or 20th then great though

More helpers needed, especially for sign on and handing out numbers, if anyone available?

I don't think I'm required at Hillscourt in the afternoon, so I can help out.

It depends upon his ability to source washing machine spare parts.

Chief Marshal to ensure no child ends up in the lake: Matthew Clegg

We could still do with a bell 🔔

I will be there from 11.15. Ideally one or two others there then too then rest from 12ish. Sign on officially opens 12.30. Should all be away by 2.30 latest maybe sooner depending on weather and turn out. Fingers crossed for dry weather again.

We've put max age 15 but 16/17 welcome if not raced before. Balance bikes, kids bikes, cyclocross bikes, road bikes with nobbly tyres, bmx, mountain bikes, unicycles all welcome. Helmet mandatory and if bike deemed unsafe you won't be able to ride. See you there.

I will be there provided that I survive morning training. AND I have a bell! Sorted.
Shall I bring Anne too? She does have numerous domestic duties to do for me but I can allow her to attend if she gets them done early enough.

Does anyone in the club have any wooden/ metal steaks or heavy duty tent pegs we can use to secure a course barrier-plank ? Probably only need half a dozen or so .....

Please give Tim or myself a shout.

Over 20 entered online now. Expect possibly same numbers again turning up to enter on the day if like last time so should be some good racing so all members are welcome to come down to watch and support. Racing starts 1ish. Weather forecast is looking good but cold, cafe for coffee and cake should be open to keep you warm.

Still need something to secure the barrier :?:

There will be a barrier! Get practicing kids!

Nic, our industrious cyclocross captain, has hand made the fixings and the barrier has been painted in our illustrious colour scheme by my better half.

38 riders today a massive well done to all. All children got to do about 4 races each. Massive thanks to all the helpers a great team effort I thought both today and on the third. Seemed to get really good feedback from parents from both novice riders and parents of Solihull and Stratford children.

A special big thanks to Nic who led the building of the course on both events. The kids seemed to love the barrier! :D
