Good evening to all, most of you on here won't remember me (Richard Gordon) I was a member of the Beacon late 80s/90s.
The reason for my post is to spread a message for the longer standing members.
It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my father Gerry Gordon, after a long illness, who was also a member of the Beacon.

If anyone reading this would like to pay their respects they could message me and I'll send detail of the funeral.

Richard, I'm sure that there are plenty who still remember both you and your dad. I certainly do. Your dad was a real stalwart of the club in my youth and I remember him with affection as an able cyclist and a patient, perceptive and considerate man. My condolences to you and your family on your loss.

By the way, your dad once told me when you took up motorcycling that it was a passing phase, and that you'd be back on your bike once you got the motorcycles out of your system. I'm still waiting for that particular prediction to be fulfilled. You know where we are when you're ready.

Hello Richard, of course I remember riding with you and your Dad. Very sorry to hear about Gerry. He was a hard rider on many of our club runs and yet we seemed to have the energy to talk in those days about cars, Honda C90s, printing, family, bikes - I think I recall a Viking that prematurely rusted through and then an early composite Giant. I also recall having fun marshalling at some Beacon races.

So sad about his long illness. My condolences to Pat and the rest of the family.
I've just phoned Roger Green who will let Mick Cullingham know and we will try to get to the funeral so please publicise the date.

Hi Richard - very sorry to hear this sad news.

A couple of things immediately spring to mind when I think about Gerry - endless miles hanging onto his rear wheel, and him racing around in that red Nissan Silvia Turbo! We mostly laughed though - lots of laughing.

Hi Richard, the club is like a family and just because we haven’t met up for some time doesn’t mean we have forgot. I remember you and your family well. I am very sad to her that Gerry has passed away. I talked to him for some time in the home where he was for the last years of his life. He didn’t really remember me but but became animated when I mentioned the cycling connection and was very keen to talk about the Beacon and cycling. I have fond memories of Gerry, Time trialling, club runs and that car. Please pass on best wishes to all your family and if you would be kind enough, let us know when and where the funeral will be.

Thank you all for your very kind words and stories. It reminds me of what a great club the Beacon is. Seeing all those familiar names also sparks happy memories for myself, the gentleman's 2 Day springs to mind when I dragged my dad around the 10 & 25 courses faster than he'd ever done before, even being pushed up Gorcott hill.

Richard. Just got back today from Ireland. So sorry to hear about your dad. I rode with him many times and always enjoyed his company. Condolences to all of the family. Charlie.
