Handicap 20 Time Trial 21st June Shell Ford near Himbleton 700pm

This is a great Beacon event so even if you are not competing come along and support the riders. It is also an excellent social event we all go down to the pub afterwards for Fish and Chips or some other type of British cuisine

I rode parts of the course this evening to check for loose chippings following surface dressing works.

The event will still go ahead but there are 2 stretches of road where riders must exercise caution.

The first section comes at approx 8 miles when riders turn left from The Saltway onto Goosehill Lane. Be careful as you make this turn, the road you turn left into has been surface dressed recently & there may be some loose gravel at junction. Road markings are also missing at junction so be aware if there is any traffic making a right turn into this road at same time as you - do not assume you have priority. Despite advisory speed limit of 20mph on this stretch of road (which lasts approx 1.5 miles) it appears to already have been well swept of loose gravel & none of the chippings were sticking to my tyres.

The second stretch of road requiring caution comes at approx 13 miles in village of Crowle, immediately after passing village hall on left. Again the road from here until you join A422 road at Broughton Hackett has been surface dressed, about a mile in total. This surface dressing has been down longer than the other section but there is more loose gravel on this bit. Riders must exercise particular caution on the sharp bends immediately after the start of this stretch of road, a marshall will be posted here so please slow down here. Also exercise caution for the 2 left turns in Broughton Hackett in case of loose gravel. Again none of the gravel was deep or sticking to my tyres.

Riders will be warned at signing on before event so please heed warnings & stay safe.

In case anyone isn't familiar with the course it's the one we used in April, a description can be found at

The marshalls available tomorrow will be located to warn of areas requiring caution not to guide riders around so please make sure you are familiar with route beforehand or load it onto your GPS device.
