I have just been told that Speeds Cycles in Bromsgrove are closing after 107 years due to the internet.

That is a real pity they've invested a lot recently and do a great job looking after Roger's tandem. It is not just the internet but also large retailers like Evans and now Halfords. I know other shops are under pressure because the bike boom isn't all it is cracked up to be. I think the future for small shops is to concentrate on servicing and avoid carrying stock of bikes and clothing and the rent of showrooms etc.
