Second call Volunteers for Cyclo-cross September 3rd

Post by David Cole » 30 Aug 2017 12:40

Redditch R & P Beacon RCC Cyclo-Cross Sunday 3rd September
Abbey Stadium Redditch

10 helpers required for this event.
2 helpers at 7.30 to help set up the course
8 helpers from 11.00 until the end of the racing about 1500. For marshalling and to help with taking the course down

So far we have
Martin McGowan and Gary Mac on the early shift

Dave Cox, George Barker, Alberto Recchioni and myself on the 11.00 shift.

Can we have another 4 volunteers please ( with over 250 Beacon members this should not be difficult)

Dave

And, don't worry, you'll be posted to a corner of your your own, which may be miles away from me.

Seriously, though, this is a fantastic event, and marshalling in the sunshine on a grassy hummock under the turning leaves is the least onerous volunteering job you'll ever do.

I've already shared Dave's post twice from the Facebook page, but perhaps people aren't seeing it there.

There seems to be two Beacon places on Facebook, a group and a page. I am not sure why this is but I see group posts automatically but page posts only occasionally. It's probably down to some setting in Facebook . However I know that I am not the only person who finds this confusing and misses stuff as a result. I didn't see any reference to this request on Facebook until it apearence on the group posted by Gary Mac

Thanks - that's helpful to know. As I'm one of the admins for the page, it's hard to know what non-admins see of it.

Laurence, the standard settings for groups is for any new post to automatically appear in a members time line, this can be turned off but most people don't.
Pages are more complex and just liking a page doesn't mean it will show in your timeline automatically.
If you want members to know something then the group is the place to post it. A page is more a shop front for potential members than a place to communicate with members.
Hope that helps.

Thanks!

Apologies to Dave and Gary that I can't help out in Redditch this year, but I've got a road race over in the East Midlands.

Possibly to do with your notification settings Pete? Are they different between the two? Maybe not though but I seem to get notifications when something is posted on the page.

I think that I have already posted this somewhere already but to reiterate, I am racing that day (National Criterium Champs) so not able to make it. I really hope that it goes well. Surely we should have more than enough members / partners / contacts to be overloaded with help.
