Dear Beacon members,
This is an appeal for both riders and volunteers.
On Saturday 18th August, we are hosting the second of our summer Cyclo-cross races for riders 5-12 years old. These will take place at Rowheath Playing Fields Heath Road, Bournville B30 1HH. 2-4pm.
The races are an opportunity for young riders to have a go at Cyclo-cross. The emphasis is on fun and participation. Other local clubs have been invited and the event has been set up as a ‘go race’ event in British Cycling. It would be really great to see a strong home team turn-out.
Participants won’t need any specialised equipment: a mountain bike is fine. The course will be a mixture of dirt and gravel. Participants must wear a helmet and it is a very good idea to wear gloves.
You can enter online via the British Cycling website, or on the day – if you enter in advance though, you can save yourself a pound! The racing starts at 14:00.
Look out for event updates on the Beacon Academy Facebook page. You can message the page with any questions you have about the event.
Please spread the word. In the past these races have been very well received as a fun low-key introduction to racing.
Volunteers would be really appreciated. Tasks include: setting up the course; assisting with signing on; marshalling; dismantling the course afterwards.
I’ll be getting to the venue before midday to start setting up.
Hope to see you there.
Best wishes,
Ade

A chance to ride a one lap TT against your kids! Last time out the fastest adult time was four hundreds of a second faster than the academys fastest time. The kids are out for revenge!

I'd like to do a quick bit of race skills coaching first so timetable for volunteers is:
Time Jobs
12:00 – 13:00 Setting up course
Checking for any hazards to riders (e.g. dog poo/glass)
13:00 -14:00 Assisting with signing on
Marshalling during warm up/coaching session
14:00 – 16:00 Marshalling
Finish line judging
Keeping track of how many laps each rider has done.
Supervising warm up area
16:00 – 16:30 Assisting with presentation
Taking down course

It would be great if you could leave a message here to let me know who is available - it doesn't have to be for the whole session.
