2018 Beacon Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony

Post by Hels147 » 24 Sep 2018 21:41

Beacon Roads Cycling Club cordially invites you, your partner, and guests to celebrate the achievements of club members at the 72nd Beacon Awards Dinner, which will be held at Hillscourt on Saturday 1 December starting at 6pm.

The evening starts with a welcome drink in the bar, followed by a three-course dinner, with coffee to finish. There is then the usual entertaining address by our club president Dave Cole, followed by this year’s guest speakers Stuart White and Adam Green . There is a cycling quiz for your entertainment and also the opportunity to celebrate your fellow club members in the cross toasting. The ever popular rocket balloons, party poppers, clackers etc. will also be back! This is a great evening’s entertainment at just £32.

Payment can be made by PayPal through the following link http://beaconrcc.org.uk/2018-annual-din ... entations/

In the past, there's always been a vegetarian option for each course.

My wife is vegetarian and usually comes to the dinner; there is always a veggie option, but you have to tell them in advance that you want it (via the organising committee).

I believe that they've changed caterers there a couple of times in the years that we've been coming, implying that historical experiences are of little relevance. With that qualification, I can report that Judy has had mixed experiences with the veggie food at the venue. Of course, there's always a personal dimension to experiences with food; others may have loved what she was unimpressed by, and vice versa. Broadly speaking, however, my impression is that vegetarian options devised by meat-eating chefs who regard vegetarians as a nuisance to be reluctantly accommodated are frequently akin to cycling facilities designed by car-driving planners who regard cyclists as a nuisance to be reluctantly accommodated.

Fortunately, the dinner is a minor detail in the context of The Dinner, which is invariably abundantly satisfying to the soul.

Have you got your ticket for the Beacon Annual Awards and Dinner yet? If not, why not?!
This will be your last opportunity to hear the fabulously funny Mr David Cole speak as your club president. Our much loved president is stepping down this year, leaving some big shoes to fill!
If charts and graphs aren’t your thing, we have a double whammy with the guest speakers this year! We have not one, but two Beacon members who raced the Transcontinental this year and we have invited them along to regale us with their stories from this year’s race.
Tickets will go off sale this Monday night, 26 November, to enable the seating plans to be finalised and numbers confirmed with the venue. So don’t delay!! Hope to see you there.
If you’re all about the destination, take a f#€king flight!
