Dear Beaconite,
I’m delighted to be able to bring to your attention three racing events for young riders that we’re promoting this year.
The first is the mayday grass track racing which forms part of the fun day at Rowheath Pavilion 6th May. Riders aged 5 – 12 will compete in fast paced racing over three laps on a tight grass track circuit. This is a great opportunity for us to promote our club and our sport to the local community. We’ve got a slot from 2pm to 3pm in a full programme of community events. It would be great to see as many competitors and helpers in green white & red shirts as possible.
Don’t forget our own club track championships takes place at Halesowen on 22nd June.
On Thursday July 25th from 4pm to 7pm, again at Rowheath we’re hosting the British Schools’ Cycling Association Regional Grass Track Championships. Young riders will compete in age specific omnium competition for the coveted regional title which brings with it a medal and a patch which can be proudly sported on a race jersey. Bromsgrove Olympique used to host this event at Catshill Meadow and I thought it was time for a revival on our turf.
Finally Tuesday August 27th sees the return of our summer cross event. Racing will take place between 1 and 4 pm. This time we’ve moved the event to Holders Lane so that riders can compete in an exciting course that takes in a range of slopes and surfaces.
Full details of the events appear on the academy facebook page where updates will be posted. https://www.facebook.com/pg/BeaconCycli ... my/events/
The mayday grass track and Cyclo cross events can be pre entered on https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/home
If you can possibly spare some time to help out all offers will be gratefully received. You don’t have to stay for the whole event if you’ve got other commitments.
Jobs include:
• Helping to set out the course before the race
• Helping to set out the gazebo before the race
• Helping out with signing on before the race
• Helping out with numbers before the race
• Marshalling during the race
• Lap counting & timekeeping during the race
• Finish line judging
• Helping to take down the course after the race
• Helping to take down the gazebo after the race
• Helping out with collecting numbers after the race
It would be immensely appreciated if you could put messages offering support on the academy fb page or e mail me at gear [at] 2-cool.com. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if there are any questions.
Even if you’re unable to make these events you can help by spreading the word. Maybe you’ve family or friends who would enjoy the chance to give cycle racing a go. All of these events are designed as entry level and specialist equipment isn’t required. The emphasis is on fun. I have contacted local clubs, but if you’ve friends who ride for other clubs do please encourage them to add to the competition.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
All the best,
Ade
