Winter Training FOR ADULT RIDERS

Post by AdeR » 02 Sep 2021 17:30

Delighted to announce that we can have traffic free training under floodlights.
When?: Five dates 23/09 30/09 07/10 14/10 21/10.
Time?: 6:30 - 7:30
Who?: Open to club members aged 18+
What?: Structured training rides
Where?: Birmingham Wheels Park, 1 Adderley Road South Birmingham B1 1AD
Why?: Build speed/stamina.
Equipment?: Road bikes
Cost?: Free to club members
What's the craic? We have the use of a 400m banked oval track. I have had a go and it is a lot of fun to ride. At the weekends this is used for stock car racing & there's a spectator area & floodlights. I found out about this when I was looking for potential academy facilities. I've been in discussion with Nick Selibas of KarbonaUK & him & Luke (son) will be helping out with the sessions. They have a wealth of coaching & racing experience & we'll vary the structure from week to week. It would not involve staring at a screen & you can be with actual other riders in the real world! It would be good if you could sign up here so that we can keep an eye on numbers. Max - 20 per session.

Dear Riders/
Thank you for signing up for our training sessions at the Birmingham Wheels Park. We have two sessions running i) an open academy session for children ii) a club session for adult members.
We hope that you will find the sessions enjoyable and that they will provide opportunities to develop fitness skills and an appreciation of some tactics used in race situations. Our philosophy is that riders who are having a good time on their bikes are far more likely to do well.
The academy sessions start at 5, the adult sessions at 6:30. The venue for the academy training is the in-line skate circuit marked with a red arrow on the map [see the beacon facebook page] . The venue for the adult training is 400m oval marked with a green arrow (ditto). Please arrive in good time so that the training can start promptly.
Please could you check that your bike is in good working order? There is a link to a useful article/video here: https://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/ge ... n-11-steps

Getting there:
Adderley Park Station is nearby and bikes are permitted on West Midlands trains. From the station, head north on Bordesley Green Rd/B4145 towards Arden Rd Turn left onto Arden R Turn left onto Adderley Rd S
The Grand Union Canal runs nearby and there is an entrance/exit point on Landor St which is at the top of the Satellite image on the facebook
To find Birmingham Wheels using a Sat Nav use the post code B8 1A
From Lawley Middleway turn left into Landor Street just before the railway bridge. Adderley Road South is the second turning on the right.
If you’ve any questions, don’t hesitate to e mail academy@beaconrcc.org.uk
See you Thursday!
All the best,
Ade

First session Birmingham Wheels Park - a cracking session. We were really well looked after. Steve must've been off the front when this pic was taken. Why not get yourselves off the zwift next week! Sessions Thurs 6:30 - 7:30 & free to club members. Come & have a blast 🙂

Thank you for great session last week Ade! I can confirm that this is far superior to an hour staring at a wall or trying to chase riders with a 350W FTP at 5'3'' and 60kg  up a digital mountain... there's plenty of winter coming for that!

Thanks Kyle - glad you enjoyed it. See you Thurs. Looks like it might be a wet one so methinks a mudguards week. Out of interest what did you have on the clock? I know you could have pushed the pace on further - so thanks for looking after the line behind on the last bit of the session!

Sorry all. The adults’ session at the wheels park is cancelled for this week. I’m off at a funeral, I’m afraid. Kids’ session can still go ahead. All being well we’ll be back on next week (7th).
