UPDATED - Beacon road racing - volunteers sought

Post by Kyle » 11 Dec 2021 11:51

UPDATED 16th March.

The details and requirements for Sunday April 10th are now finalised. There are four races, the first beginning at 0930 and the final one concluding at 1500. Splitting the day into two means a morning and afternoon 'shift'; could I please ask those who have volunteered their support indicate the time/roles they would be happy to undertake?

Morning 0845 - 1215

6x Marshall (inc. one person willing to liaise with BC Commissaires) - I expect that this will be little more than passing on instruction as to where they want folks.
1x back-up judge/lap board - just remember that if in doubt, I win the photo finish for race #1
1x sign-on support - sign on will be the responsibility of Behind Bars and this person will be require for limited support during busy morning sign-on
  • Kyle Gatier from 1045 (or after winning the 0930 Cat 3 race :D )
  • Simon Woodward
  • Karl Walton
  • Lucy Morton
  • Ade Ravenscroft
  • Helen Jamieson

Afternoon 1215 - 1515

1x lead car driver
  • Kyle Gatier (unless someone else would rather drive around in circles)
6x Marshall (inc. one person willing to liaise with BC Commissaires) - I expect that this will be little more than passing on instruction as to where they want folks.
1x back-up judge/lap board
  • George Barker
  • Paul Balfe
  • Simon Woodward
  • Lucy Morton
  • Laurence Cooley
  • Ade Ravenscroft
  • Helen Jamieson

p.s. Any Beacon member wishing to race can take advantage of half price entry - I will put the details in a thread in the racing forum following this.

----------------

Beacon have the opportunity to support the organisation of road racing at Birmingham Business Park in 2022. This is a great opportunity to promote the club and provide local event(s) for Beacon racers new and experienced to pin on a number and be cheered on by familiar faces!

This will only be possible with your support and I am keen to gauge the appetite of fellow club mates to volunteer their time to support this.

So, at this stage I am putting the call out for support in principle on Sunday April 10th. Exact roles and timings are not yet known although previous years have seen races from 0900 - 1500… and any time you can support on the day would be of huge value.

With sufficient numbers I hope to be able to respond positively to this request and set about firming things up.

Other dates in August and September are also up for consideration… but one thing at a time!

There's a chance that I'm going to be away with work that week, but if I'm not, I'd be happy to help.

Huge thanks to everyone for such positive responses!!!

Ade - with a couple of additional names I have that gets us, provisionally at least, into double figures… so looking good!

Kyle, In principle I'm happy to do whatever job you'd like me to do. I have a general preference for the afternoon, but I'm willing to do the morning if needs be.

Thank you George, Paul, Simon!

As long as everyone keep going round the right way and no-one ducks out for a sly three-lap break then you’re all good Simon.

Can I please encourage others who have indicated they’d be happy to support on the day to shout with their am/pm preferences?

Ta!

Cheers Karl! I've popped you down for both am&pm but hope to relieve you of one of those with more numbers - hope that's ok.

Hi,
I don’t drop on here often, so didn’t see the message. I see you’ve filled all the slots, but if someone drops out or you need another person, I’m free all day.

You can select them using the tick boxes to the right of the messages in your inbox, then there's a delete option on the drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen.

Kyle,

Only just seen your PM.

I’m afraid I have a ride now this weekend so won’t be able to help on this occasion.

Sorry

Kyle, when we turn up, is there some sort of HQ area or similar that we report to? Also, is the start time you've given for the shift the time we need to be there, or the time that everything gets going (implying that we need to be there, say, 15 minutes before that)?

Hi George (and others),

HQ is located undercover (as opposed to inside) at Waterside Centre, Solihull Pkwy, Birmingham B37 7YN (my creative highlight of this week is the image below). There is parking available at Waterside however this is inside the circuit so not accessible while races are ongoing. Another point of note is that HS2 works are ongoing and weekend road closure mean that there is only a single access to Birmingham Business Park (possibly via Progress Way but I am not 100%); there are supposedly signposts in place.

If volunteers could aim to be at Waterside for the beginning of 'shifts', I will - with the support and guidance of others e.g. BC commissaires - make sure everyone knows where they need to be. I say with support as I will be warming up and racing between 0910ish & 1045ish (but will be there before 0845 and around to greet those arriving to support the afternoon).

As for timings... the first race starts at 0930; 0845 gives plenty of time to be briefed, organised and in place. Race 2 ends at 1200 & race 3 begins at 1230, hence the suggested time of 1215. It would do no harm to be a little earlier than this however.

Cheers,
Kyle
