Midlands XC Series

So er... much to my amusement, kinda, Beacon RCC finished plum joint last this year in the teams category! Good effort by me to drive to sheffield then snap a gear cable and retire! Then fail to get to any more races.

So how many MTBers do we have here, and how many CX bods have a bike and would give it a go? Some of the events are actually quite like CX (sheffield!) and some more technical.

Would be nice to have a proper go at it next year. There's only 5 races in a season and I think the organisers are pondering a team relay event too!

Also don't forget there's 12 or 24hr team events. They're alot of fun :)

I'd have a crack at the more CX like events, on me crosser, but I'll leave the fast downhill stuff to those with a proper MTB.

XC doesn't tend to have much in the way of long real fast descents over rocks/trees, etc. The 3rd round at Pitcheroak is probably the closest to a XC race but missing the long climbs and more technical rooty stuff. Still a good taster though.

Best fun on a bike - thoroughly recommended, and by no means super technical - even I can take part and bike handling never a strong point!

Hmmmmm, is it boys only? How technical? And would my pretty little hardtail cope with it? :lol:

CX are allowed btw James... and bar ends, no silly wotsit rules about tangling bar ends up. If you tangle and crash it's your own fault. :D

Most people ride hardtails 'cos of the longer climbs, just depends on the course.
Women race in the same event as the master males. Sheffield is grass along the bottom, grass up the climb and what felt like a pile of roots on the way down. Cannock is quite flat but quite fiddly, rooty and tight, etc etc.

One bit of advice though -- get used to riding on rooty stuff. Prefer rocks myself...

Just to check...

CX = cyclocross
XC = cross country mtb

Is that correct?

I think so although both types of bike were in use today. Great day's racing and impressive family occasion.
