Friday Night Track League 2016

Post by AdeR » 04 Mar 2016 14:07

Hi All,

Just received this from Will Fotheringham.

All the best,

Adrian

Hi Adrian

Hope you are fit and well and up for track league this year. Looking forward to seeing you win the Bs. You were asking about more info for other riders in your club, if you could possibly circulate this letter, put on website or whatever, that would be great.

Really appreciate that, see you soon

All best

William

Re: Halesowen track league.

This letter is to advise you and your club members of opportunities to race and train at Halesowen track this year.

Halesowen Friday Night Track League is one of the oldest-established leagues in the country, offering the perfect way for riders to improve speed and skills while competing in a relaxed environment. FNTL runs from May 6 until September 2 on our 400m tarmacced outdoor velodrome, with on-site café, bar, hot snacks and changing facilities, just off junction 3 of the M5. Racing is split by ability into Categories A and B, plus youth and Freewheelers, with four events per evening for each category, including a separate veterans and women’s league, and a sprinters’ league.

In addition, we are running a mini-league for A-categories only on Fridays May 27, June, July 29 and August 26 which have a separate ranking and will carry British Cycling ranking points Regional C+. No extra registration is needed for this.

Registration with the league is available priced £5 for individuals, but if your club affiliates to the Friday night Track league then your members can register for the league with no cost to themselves.

Individual registration is via BC website:

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/ ... ack-league

A club affiliation costs £30 and will allow as many riders as you want to register without paying and will also entitle your club to hire the track for a 2 hour session free of charge and any hire of the track after your free session will be at half price. If your club is interested in this then please email william.fotheringham@guardian.co.uk

As you may know, the velodrome re-opened last year following building work to provide new fencing and lighting plus repairs to the track surface. This, together with the major renovation on our changing rooms in 2014, should make racing with us even more enjoyable.

Riders who have ridden track league before or are accredited elsewhere can just turn up and race. But for those with no fixed wheel racing experience, accreditation by our British Cycling qualified coaches is needed to ensure you can compete safely; there will be two specific accreditation sessions on April 10 and 17.

I have contacted William regarding accreditation for freewheelers (under tens) and if the bikes they have are available to hire.

Hi Steve,

I'm going to have a bash at this next Friday, do I just turn up in my Beacon kit or do I need to register with someone beforehand?
I had a look on the BC website but there's only the paying options on there (I realise you need to pay per night also).

Thanks Ade/Steve for sorting.

Does anybody else fancy this next Friday (6th)?

(as mentioned in the original post, you will need to be accredited).
Cheers,

Stu

You do need to register, a quid something is the cost! https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/ ... ack-league

I didn't make an accreditation session unfortunately.

Might come down with Joseph to watch and see if he fancies a go one week.

Cheers Tim,

I've registered but I think it might be too late for this week. I'm going to go down anyway and see what's what.

Jess, what gearing are you using for this? Will I need the same as for indoor do you think?
Cheers,

Stu

Says you need to be registered by the Wednesday somewhere, reckon you will be ok. I've registered Joseph although not sure why it's £6 for him! Don't think can make this week though.

This is what Halesowen say:
Halesowen is an outdoor track with relatively shallow bankings, open to the weather, and riders should be aware that slightly different equipment may be needed compared to an indoor velodrome. We recommend a slightly lower gear (90 or 91.4in for seniors), spoked wheels, and standard weight tubular tyres e.g. Continental Sprinters. To ensure equality of competition, and safety during racing in windy conditions, disc wheels are not permitted.

A really fun evening of racing at Halesowen - Stu, Steve Croggan, Adrian & I all racing for Beacon - Stu in the A cats and me, Steve & Adrian in the B cats. There were scratch races of different lengths, an Unknown distance race and an elimination race. Think Steve won at least 2 of the 4 B cat races (might have been even more!) not sure where to find official results though

The final league results here. Jess, Adrian, Steve and Joseph in the points. Joseph really enjoyed his three goes in the freewheelers.

Pete and Gavin are hoping to do the British Cycling Level 2 Track coaching qualification early next year so hopefully this may encourage some more of those that race to give this league a go next year.

Reminder our Track Championships are on next Saturday 17th at Halesowen for anyone who wants to watch or have a go, there's a road bike TT if you just want to do that on the track. Children with their bikes are welcome too.
