Dave Hughes Road Race successes

Post by David Cole » 13 Jul 2016 21:25

Dave Hughes has taken up road racing again this year after a very long break ( decades rather than years). Anyway he has done very well and looks like a leading contender for the Beacon RCC Road Race Trophy.

Below is a list of races he has entered together with the results and if you would like to see him in action, he will be competing in the LVRC National Road Race Championships on Saturday (16 July 9.00 AM) at Stourport Circuit

Cheers Andy, but now (Fri) really feeling the pressure to be in top 6 or so on Sat. At the National RR Champs the pace was significantly higher than other races, so much so that I 'cramped' out before the sprint.
It should be better for me over the shorter distance but Crit racing is always something of a lottery.
And I haven't fallen off this year...

Wow, I must confess that I was only aware of about half of those results. Mr Hughes has been hiding his light under a bushel. And, of course, Dave also squeezed in a 50-mile TT at 24.5mph. Just for training, probably.

What I really want to know is how the presentation of the Road Race Trophy is going to work at the dinner.

Thanks Simon but can't help feeling somewhat deflated. Think I could have got it if had't chased so much through the race. Kept trying to control the front. Not my usual style in a previous life.
Still, might have seen the podium places slip away if I hadn't. Most of the group seemed happy to play chicken and I cracked. No complaints, done that many times myself. The silver medallist hadn't been close to me all year, till today. Just didn't have the usual zip at the end.
This time next year Rodney...

Well, I thought you did bloody well, Dave. You did some work on the front trying to get back the lone break. That was a gamble that could have given you a chance to sprint for gold. However, the gamble didn't work out, and in the end it probably cost you silver. But that's racing.

Hi George, couldn't sleep hence time of posting...
Yes I agree, that's racing. That chase to bridge to the break was the burning of several matches rather than just the one. Really thought that break would stick and couldn't stand the thought of Gold and Silver disappearing over the horizon..
Super image George. I think I remember that corner incident, going too fast into the corner and had to break as I exited (V Dangerous, dont do this children) as I was cornering faster than Dave Woods and almost caught his back wheel. I have new tyres that are awesome for cornering but testing the limits here.
(BTW, I can't get the photo link to work on my PC.)
Image; Dave Woods (One of the break riders I bridged to during the race), me, Don Parry, National RR champion and winner today, and the last one in the image is the silver medallist, Ken Bradbury.
Cheers for coming George, nice to see so many Beacon people at an event. Definitely gives you a lift. It felt like the old days when people had the time (or made the time?) to watch each other race. (Heaves sigh and becomes wistful).
Time for bed, off on hols tomorrow, er later today.

There's a stray "[/img]" at the end of the link - if you remove that, it will work.

Sorry, that was a bit sloppy of me. I've removed it now.
