Points target for 2017

So with my coaching hat on, and seeing how Roger has propelled us into he top ten at this early stage, I think it would be good to set us a collective points targets for 2017. Would be good if you give yourself a target too.

The following is how we have done over the last decade in Road and Track British Cycling points. Don't know if we can look at LVRC too?

YEAR - POINTS - PLACE IN WEST MIDLANDS CLUB RANKINGS

2017 - 3 - 8th before today
2016 - 52 - 22nd
2015 - 50 - 23rd
2014 - 95 - 10th
2013 - 181 - 6th
2012 - 145 - 8th
2011 - 89 - 12th
2010 - 86 - 9th
2009 - 62 - 14th
2008 - 79 - 10th
2007 - 63 - 13th
2006 - 38 - 17th

Looking at last year 89 would have got us to top ten. Top 5 was 158+
100 would be a good target. Is that possible?

Stuart who got most of our points last year is now 2nd Cat so won't probably won't get 41 again, prove me wrong Stu! He will be aiming for 25 to retain 2nd cat status. Between John Hunt, Matt Clegg and Sean Mungovan (not sure if racing this year though) and brand new 3rd Cat Roger there's good potential there to score well. Guessing Jon and Matt are aiming for 2nd Cat which requires 40 points. There's also myself, Gavin Passmore and Andrew Clayton as 3rds too. Then there's several other 4th cats who are capable of scoring: Laurence Cooley, James Tate, Robin Kirkham, James Graemer etc. Plus don't know if Jess or Carolyn plan to do any crits or track too. There's probably others I've forgotten or don't know or people who might give racing a go for first time.

Maybe reply to this with your own personal target. Something challenging but realistic.

I'll start things off with a goal of a big fat 5 points!

You can keep an eye on the club's progress or look back at who scored points in previous years here. https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/ranking/regional
Just change region to West Midalnds.

I am not sure if there is any direct link between the points for LVRC and BC.

I like the motivational aspect of this table though Tim. I will keep folks up to date about what us old geezers are up to in LVRC although I think that I am the only one at the moment.

The points table is BC not LVRC Dave.
Our internal club points championship include LVRC though.
I don't think that LVRC have a club points system, at least I haven't seen anything on their site and they don't actually ask your club when you register with the LVRC, which is a bit of a shame but probably down to some politics of the past.

I agree Pete, I was responding to Tim's comment/question;

"The following is how we have done over the last decade in Road and Track British Cycling points. Don't know if we can look at LVRC too?"

As you say, there is no way of linking points at all.

It's a pity sports funding is more or less entirely focused on elite adult sport, the Olympics and World Championship in cyclings case, as this means there is absolutely no interest in veterans by BC.
As far as Sports England is concerned competitive cycling is for the under 40's, after that you're doomed to sportives😵😨

The LVRC receives no public funding I know of and it still manages to be cheaper than BC to race. Maybe not taking money from media empires or bankers trying to improve their image could be a good thing?
Less drugs as well, unless you count the Sanatogen, Vics vapour rub and Bathams bitter.

Is it that they (or clubs) don't want to compete, as LVRC caters to that market? Just ask because when I was looking recently at races to enter you can filter by veterans, but there's hardly any on just some at Milton Keynes bowl (get down there Dave!) and an outdoor track in Glamorgan. Seems nothing to stop us putting on a vets race if we wanted to under bc.

Totally agree though, they should be backing all age groups, from a physical activity and health point of view there is zero evidence just pumping the cash into elite sport has any effect on upturn in physical activity or sport participation of rest of population including children. The children within 10miles of the Olympic Park are now less active than they were in 2006.

A few points.
The LVRC does cater for a lot of the older age group so it may be that the BC do let it lie. Not only LVRC but also some other organisations eg TLI. I think they could give some support to these bodies but as you point out they concentrate on the Elite end. It's called the Trickle down effect. High water floats all boats blah blah. (Note to capitalists. It didn’t work as an economic theory).

Tim. I did the MK series last year. Most enjoyable. I will be there again though they have got my number now as I won a few.

Pete. I don’t think that Bathams is on the prohibited list but it should be. I always feel that I am bound to be world champion after a pint or two. Ah, Bathams; the difference between hope and hopelessness. ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2500241/ )

Talking LVRC, well done to Andrew Clayton. Gives the track a real go at the Drby LVRC tarck league, despite it most definitely not being his forte. He cleared off during the final scratch race last night and set a few alarm bell ringing for several laps. Sadly it didn't end well...

Was wanting to know how you are both getting on and Stu in the track league there, time for a report / blog on hubhub? :D

Squaring up against some rather tasty track specialists is exposing the fact that climbers legs don't necessarily make the best track engine and more importantly my lack of tactical nouse... I managed a few top ten placings last night and just missed out on points in a couple of races, so for my second night of racing I'm pretty pleased...Dave however eclipses all before him, it's a joy to watch him.

Brilliant stuff. Sounds pretty good for week 2! We need live streaming of the races! Is there a link to results for this and the league Stu does too so we can share that? I know no-one likes blowing their own trumpet!

Aiming for 40+ points for 2nd Cat, then would ATTEMPT some E/1/2 races so I sincerely doubt there'd be any more points from me I'm afraid... :)

In response to Andy' s comment about Dave's track racing. I have known Dave for 45 years and I have never found him a "joy"!!!

Doubt I'll be getting any points... First target is to make it to the start line. I'll then go from there!

Just to put a bit of flesh on Andrew's performance (and he could do with some flesh...)
He does not have the usual track mans physique. That is something of an understatement. If he were a supermodel his agency would be advocating a carb based diet before allowing him on the catwalk. The pace of the AB racing is high, averages of 29 mph and that is with all the p*****g around that takes place during most track distance races and he is still there at the end. Analysis of his results should show he finishes well up there in distance races but the frequent sprint based events of Elim / Points are not his suite. However, up Rose Hill on a Sat morning...
