WMCCL round 5 - race report

WMCCL – Round 5 – Newport Shropshire Cycling Club

So, this week’s race was less dramatic, in that the mud wasn’t as clarty as previous weeks, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t blumming tough! The normal single track was missing from this round due to construction works, so the course was routed around the pitches and those areas were certainly muddy. The type of mud that saps the energy from the legs and snaps the bars away from the unsuspecting, tired rider!!! At least one Beacon rider came a cropper in that area!
We were missing a few riders this week, one went to the dark side and was munching tarmac in a TT, or not….. Oops.
In the male Vet race, Nic Vipond, V50, finished 24th overall, and 11th in his category and Adrian Ravenscroft, V50, came in 52nd and 27th in his category.
We had the solo female Beacon rider again this week, Helen Jamieson, V40, finished 19th and 4th in her category. Huge cheers to Hannah Dayan, whilst not being a Beacon rider, she is closely affiliated with the club and finished 20th overall and 1st in her category in her first ever CX race!!!!
The male Seniors race, Tom Williams, U23, finished 75th and 4th in his category. George Lazenby, V45, finished 106th and 32nd in his category. Simon Wood,V40, finishes just 2 places behind George in 108th place overall and 24th in his category.
The league tables have also been published, which makes things a bit complicated as there are races within races and the results mentioned here aren’t fully indicative of the league points awarded!!! The beacon CX trophy is based upon WMCCL league points won by members, so we’ve pulled together a Beacon league table so you can follow the competition as closely as those involved in the racing…..!!!!
If you’re all about the destination, take a f#€king flight!
