Brilliant Barry something to aim for in the UK! Is the shelter etc just for walkers and cyclists?

Yes, Dave, all just for walkers and cyclists. It used to be tree lined but the floods and erosion swept them away (and part of the floating bikeway further downstream!). so they have installed more man-made shelter.
This particular bikeway was a victim of of its own success with occasional bikeway rage incidents due to heavy traffic, so it has been significantly widened in the past 10 years.

I've also noticed some interesting new bike maintenance stations around town which I will take a pic of and post.
