Never heard of them but might be good for the area?

Rubbish website - tells you nothing of value e.g. who they are and what their aims are (other than to win £50,000) - or have I missed something?

There are some links at the top. Doesn't say what they'll do once the £50k runs out though...

The Northfield Eco Centre has been arranging short local rides and doing various green projects (gardening, home insulation etc) for a few years. Its a voluntary group but they are trying to emulate Bike North Birmingham a funded project which helps get people cycling. I think the City has allocated them some bikes. Its a cycling community development project. I met them last year at Cocomad in Cotteridge Park.

Great. More idiots pootling about at rush hour with no lights, likely no helmets (I'm not getting into that debate please!!!) and most likely wearing dark clothing at night.

Or am I being too much of a miserable sod?

I think it's a good idea this sort of thing and stuff like sky ride local and breeze. Most people think cycling is 'too dangerous' to even consider doing or they have no confidence to get onto roads so this can only help.

Cyclists with no/rubbish lights is majorly annoying, just behind drivers who don't put lights on at dusk&dawn, are they thinking they are saving petrol or something?

I am absolutely sure that they will have helmets, hi viz, lights and be properly trained by qualified Bikeability instructors. This will be modelled on what we do at Bike North Birmingham and having ridden with them I am very impressed with the care taken to keep inexperienced cyclists safe.

They will certainly not be idiots!

I see that the Northfield cycle hub has been awarded the £50,000 good luck to them.
