Your Favourite Spinning Tracks?

Post by Kermit » 28 Nov 2014 10:11

Last winter I completed around 1500 miles on my Turbo and this year it looks like I'll have to sit on the *!<>%#!! thing even more as I have a shoulder operation coming up in a couple of weeks. Unlike some I don't mind these sessions (mostly at 06.30 before work) but only made endurable with the aid of music. Trouble is I'm getting a bit tired of the tracks, having used them for the last three or four years (see list below)

Can anyone suggest any of their own that I can add to my playlists?

David Bowie & Mick Jagger – Dancing In The Street
Dire Straits – Walk Of Life
Bob Dylan – Things Have Changed
Duffy – Mercy
Bloc Party – Helicopter
Queen – Don't Stop Me Now
Billy Joel – We Didn't Start The Fire
Kings Of Leon – Sex on Fire
Bloc Party – Price Of Gasoline
Bloc Party – Like Eating Glass
Elton John – Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)
Snow Patrol – You're All I Have
Maximo Park – Once, A Glimpse
Mumford & Sons – The Cave
Bloc Party – She's Hearing Voices
Bonnie Tyler – Holding Out for a Hero
Dr. Feelgood – Roxette
The Rolling Stones – Shake Your Hips
Maximo Park – Limassol
Bobby Darin – Mack the Knife
Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl
The Weather Girls – It's Raining Men
The Rolling Stones – Paint It Black
Bloc Party – Helicopter
Darude – Sandstorm
Snow Patrol – Open Your Eyes

I used to teach spinning 12 years ago, this was on the CD. Everyone loved it. Not quite Snow Patrol or Block Party though

Now I have been known to do the odd turbo session, and like you Paul I started to build up a regular play list. However, I then purchased a number of albums called "Running Trax". If you search on Amazon there are a whole host of them.

HERE

Okay admittedly one or two tracks can be a bit iffy and probably not ones that I would normally listen to, but if you buy the albums as a download just delete the one or two iffy ones.

I can also recommend any albums by David Guetta

I like listening to the Chemical Brothers and stuff like that on the turbo. Wouldn't listen to it normally but the hypnotic beats seem to suit the turbo somehow. I'm on Dig Your Own Hole at the moment 8)
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report.

To be honest, off the shelf music tracks for running / spinning / cycling, just give me an enormous headache.

Here are a few of my eclectic mix that are matched for tempo.

John Barry's Zulu, which is a slow paced hard slog. Ideal for imagining the hard relentless climb. And something more contemporary is Ms Mr's Hurricane

Reaktor's Can't Slow Down, a fast paced burst or wanderlust

Woodkid's Run Boy Run or Iron

Florence and the Machine's Spectrum contains variable tempo

and where would we be, without Norman Cook's classic Right Here; Right Now

Easy Livin Uriah Heep
Kashmir Led Zep

American Girl Tom Petty

Don't Believe a word Thin Lizzy
John I'm only dancing David Bowie
Flight of the Valkyries Richard Vagner

I've found the latest Daft Punk and Arcade Fire albums quite good on the turbo this year. How anyone can ride to Snow Patrol, I don't know, so you have my respect for that Paul. :D

12" disco mix ;)

But, yes, VERY short. Like, 5 mins and I'm bored. 10 mins and I want to go to the dentist and request an extraction without anaesthetic as a more interesting alternative!
