Just back from a weekend in Belgium for the Retro Ronde. A sort of audax in that you have to get a card stamped at the controls, this entitles you to a bacon roll and a bottle of beer at the end. Food and drink at the controls was also free, including strawberries and ice cream at the final stop.
800 riders, and about 250 in the ride that I did. a bit crowded for the first few miles but after that no problems. The roads through Oudenarde were closed, and traffic was stopped at every road crossing. The route itself used mainly tracks and lanes from the Tour of Flanders. I still have no idea how the pros ride at those speeds over the cobbles.
All in all a brilliant weekend, and for anyone into retro cycling that is the place to go. A bit disappointed to not win the award for "the most ravishing male rider" nor the road bike in the draw.
I will be posting a few pics on Facebook later.

Don't know where you get to on a Thursday Dave, but none of our stops gives out free beer and bacon sarnies. and certainly not the Dipsy Doodles (yes that is a Group) to entertain us. 1940s style music and dancing.
