BBC Looking for a Cyclist

Hi there,

I work for the BBC in Birmingham on the Inside Out Programme. We make current affairs films for BBC 1 in the West Midlands.

I’m getting in touch because we’re currently working on a film about Air Pollution, and are looking for a cyclist that commutes in Birmingham City Centre to do some filming with us.

I wondered if you might know of anyone who could be interested in helping us out?

Ideally what we’re after is someone who wouldn’t mind giving us their views on Air pollution in the city, and we would like to test their cycle route so we can see how polluted their it is, and whether there could be an alternative.

We are working alongside The University of Birmingham who will be helping us do the pollution tests.

If you could get in touch to let me know if you can help, that would be great!

Many thanks,

Vic

I think you're still due another fourteen and a half minutes, Gary.

Maybe George but I think for everyone's sake that's probably my lot.

Nice one Gazza.
As is often the case, Aussies are woefully ignorant about such things here, believing that they don't have a problem. Diesel is subsidised and every other vehicle is a flippin great 4 WD urban off-roader. 3 tonnes to go pick up 30 kg children from school. Like other vehicles, they are unregulated as there is no annual road/emissions test, except when you sell. So it just encourages owners to hang on to old dirty vehicles. The result, as most cyclists know, is a toxic cloud of diesel fumes surrounding every road.
Slowly eliminate the bloody things by taxing them off the road.

Has any one ever come across any research that looks at the incidence of respiratory diseases and lung cancer amongst life long cyclists?
