As most of you know in addition to leading C Runs I'm pretty busy with cycle campaigning currently with Push Bikes and the Bike West Midlands Network.

We've been lobbying the candidates standing for the post of Mayoral the West Midlands Combined Authority. All of them have committed to our campaign to get the West Midlands Cycling Charter funded at £10 per head pa and implemented. To celebrate we are organising a Bring Your Own Picnic in Cannon Hill Park next Saturday. The main candidates are coming on bikes or on foot and will briefly address the crowds on cycling and active travel. All welcome and a nice family ride down the NCR5 River Rea Route. The other two candidates had prior engagements but have sent positive messages.

The election address have just come through your letter box and are typically party political but we have found all the candidates intelligent, thoughtful, responsive to our questions and committed to improving many aspects of the Region including cycling. We need to demonstrate that cycling is popular and convince whoever wins to live up to their promises. Please come along in Beacon tops if you can.

Many thanks to Si Walker, Lynne Yeates and Pete and Jan Norman for coming along. It was a great success and there are pictures posted on Birmingham Cyclist. We now know that Andy Street was elected Mayor and we look forward to him fulfilling the commitments to enabling cycling that he made in his speeches and statements.
