Congratulations to Steve in getting the Message Board working again. Does that mean that new members can now Register OK if so I'll pass the message on to everyone who has joined since FlashGordon http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... e=post&f=3# Why did the smiley go all funny???

Thanks Dave

I haven't got the forum email function working yet so there may be a delay in enabling new users if I don't spot them immediately but yes, we are open for new business. 5 new users already.

On the downside, we've lost the custom colour scheme and a few other minor things.

On the plus side: stuff generally works again, it's better on mobile phones and it's much easier to include photos within messages.

We'll most probably come across a few glitches but hopefully, on balance, a step forward.

Well done, Steve. Great job. I remember asking if it could updated to be more forum reader app friendly years ago and you told me it was infeasible. So clearly something changed?

There have indeed been a few developments during the few years you refer to Barry. Partly, upgrades to phpbb meant that improved features made it worth losing our mods to the old forum, some mods are now standard features and the remaining ones are no longer important. The main development however was the fact that the old version no longer worked so I managed to drum up the enthusiasm to spend a good chunk of a day sorting it out.

Steve, is the message board time zone set properly? Posting this at 0954 BST, but it will say 0854

Yes Barry but the time displayed is controlled by user settings of the person reading the posts, yours will be set to UTC not UTC+1. This is how your post appeared to me.....

I haven't come across a setting to take account of daylight savings yet but I don't suppose many people will worry about it for the sake of an hour for half of the year.

OK, thanks. I mucked around with time zones and selected Europe/London and that auto picked UTC+1

Is the message board search working properly? I was searching for past posts on 'canal(s)', but get no results, despite there being at least one post with the word 'canal' in the title.

I tried a few searches for other terms and none of them returned results from earlier than 2017, so maybe the search function is only working for more recent posts for some reason?

There's probably an admin function somewhere to rebuild the search index so it includes stuff from before the upgrade. I thought I'd done that but will have a look when I get chance.

I've reindexed everything now, search results go back to 2007. Thanks for the heads-up on this.
