A warm and witty celebration of the life of unsung sporting legend Beryl Burton. This critically acclaimed first play by renowned stage and screen actress, Maxine Peake, tells the story of the working class mum from Leeds, who cycled her way into the record books, becoming the greatest ever woman on two wheels. Beryl's story was largely forgotten but now her amazing achievements are finally being shown to a wider audience. It has recently won the Behind The Arras Best Play of 2018 for amateur theatre.

Beryl broke the 10 mile TT record in a Beacon 10 at Ombersley in an event for which I was the organiser and she stayed at our house after the event.I think I still have the result sheet. It must have been between 1964-1969.
My son Peter(ex Beacon member) took me to see the play when it opened in Leeds a few years ago with Maxine Peake playing Beryl.
