cassette question

Post by Philmondo » 06 Jan 2009 21:51

I've just ordered a cassette so that I can use my old rear wheel on my turbo. It's just occurred to me that I don't know if the cassette will come with a lockring, or if I'll need to buy one separately.

Anyone know if cassettes generally come with lockrings?

Cheers

Campag used to supply a lock ring with every cassette, then they went over to supplying lock rings with their hubs/wheels, but not with their cassettes ... unless it's a cassette with an 11 top sprocket, which needs a special lock ring. In that case the cassette does come with the lock ring (the logic being that the standard one that came with your hub won't do).

At least, that was the situation a little while ago ... now with the new 11 speeds ... God only knows what complexities they've dreamed up!
