Lance's glasses

Post by George » 13 Jul 2009 09:44

Gareth says I'm deformed. And he's probably right. Certainly, there are various bits of cycling kit that I've never been able to get on with, because they seem to be made for people of a completely different shape to me. Glasses, for example. I've tried numerous types over the years, but never found any that didn't have one or both of the following drawbacks:
a) When leaning forward in a normal riding position -- so that, in order to see ahead, I am 'looking up' -- the upper edge of the glasses is right in the middle of my field of vision. As a result, I can't see where I'm going.
b) The sweat running down my face wells up where the bottoms of the 'lenses' touch my cheeks. As a result, I get very sore irritated patches on my face.

I therefore ride without glasses. But that has problems too: on summer evenings in the lanes, I am forever getting insects in my eyes. And, when riding in company I get dust in my eyes. So, from time to time, I think about trying some more glasses.

Now, finally, to the point: has anyone noticed the glasses Lance is wearing at the Tour?

What are those funny yellow bits round the bottom? Are these glasses-cum-goggles, with a sort of sealed edge to stop the sweat getting in? Has anyone seen glasses like this first hand or, even better, tried any?

i think the yellow bits just because it's the tour and it matches the team kit. hincapie used to wear similar huge glasses. not sure if they have any real function. unless ,like the cricket players put sun screen under their eyes, it's to prevent glare?

I could buy a bike or two for that. 'Spose I'll just have to put up with the flies.

Lances yellow and black kit is the "livestrong" colours and the glasses Oakley "radars". Fancy some of these myself as supposed to be really comfy and non slip and good variety of lense`s available (at a price)

Here you go, look like Lance without lining his pockets

You will need grade B impact protection when your bike snaps, bet the Oakleys don't offer that
