That's initially what I thought you meant but then I thought "Neil doesn't drive so he must mean a bike rack"

I've split the discussion about pannier racks into a separate topic.

Depends whether you want a rooftop carrier or a rear mounted carrier and of course what type of car it's for. I went for the rooftop one because I needed frequent boot access during a few days' journey. Also as I already had roof bars it was fairly economical. If I change the car the only thing that would need to be replaced is the brackets for the bars.

Rear mounted carriers are good if you already have a towbar but expensive if you need to add a towbar just for the purpose.

Boot mounted carriers are fairly cheap but I'm not sure how confident I'd be about the cheapest protecting the car's paintwork. I think you may have to remove the bike for access to the boot though - maybe depends on the car.

I think the car is a Hatchback. I'll have to find out the particular make. I was talking to someone who does some cycling and they asked me about cycle carriers which was before i told them i didn't drive.

Neil, I have a club bike carrier which is the boot type and have used it on several occasions without problem or damage to paintwork. It is available for any Beacon members to use FOC and I'm sure we could extend that to close friends and family.
